    Hyosung GV650 Aquila

    Hey there folks,

My full license is coming up soon and i'm considering getting the Aquilla 650 because I love my cruisers but have been tempted to get a sports bike because I do love my corners..

On a quick research around this bike appears to be the best next option for me. Classified as a sports-cruiser, I love the look of it and I reckon this bike is exactly what i'm looking for..

Anyway, essentially what i'm asking about is does anyone own one of these or used to. How does it handle the twisties, any major mechanical problems and just general opinions on the bike.

Ofcourse i'll be taking one for a test ride as soon as I get my full but you only get so much from a test ride.

    Cheers for any advice.

And no.. i'm not gonna get the trend killer kit for it..

FOR SALE: '88 Yamaha FZX 750, low k's and decent condition. Looking for around 4.5K. Drop us a pm, view it any time. Oh, and trades considered for cruisers or naked sporties.

The Hyosungs are getting there, but the welding is still rubbish.

I think they have got to this "Standard" of build quality, and not bothered to progress, i don't think they will ever get to jap quality.

You get what you pay for.

Yeah that's alot like I was thinking..

It's only 11K brand new so I would buy it brand new, but i'll be expecting some build faults as I go along.. though I have no problems with fixing broken bits myself.

    More wondering how it runs.

they are an alright looking bike nothing to write home about though....

had a play on the 250 version and well i think they are a pig of a bike (my own opinion) they are lacking something plus its a hyo not enough history there for me
I've learnt to hide the pain inside, open the throttle and ride away.

Ah yes, but the difference between the 650 and the 250 is somewhat extreme..

I've had a wee spin on the 250 aswell, massive bike but it's all plastic.

The 650's a sports cruiser though.. the massive rear wheel accounts for the that.

Just be aware that the although the GV is better than the GT, the flungdung 650 engine has a tendency turn into a grenade...

theres one on trademe for 9k. I got the GT650R which is the same engine and trans, and it goes really well - unlikely you will need any more power than this from a cruiser. I think you will like it a lot. Make sure you bring it down to tauranga one thursday night - I'd love to see it.

As they have only been making GV's since 05? they are fitted with the later head and are in a slightly lower state of tune (or it could just be the massive exhaust), also removal of the AIS system helps too.

As to the main fact the flungdung 650 is a renowned grenade, so much so the were recalled across Europe to be fitted new heads in 06, whether it's fixed it or not remains to be seen.

PS the don't have exactly the same box the GV is 5 speed the GT 6.

One of the guys in CKMC has one.

The problems he has had with them as far as i know is:

The mirrors or covers aroudn the bolts where they attach to the bars are like a chromed plastic or something - he's fixed this by getting custom flame mirrors

Also, his speedo has gone - a crack developed on the housing on the wheel and rain got into it while we were on rally. Now it comes and goes.

My dealings having it on rides with us is that it is more than capable of cruising at 120k if you want, and can hit 150k if needed. Appears to be a comfortable position to sit on also.

My personal complaint is that it's to quiet - but he isn't as adventurous as me at gutting pipes lol.

Ah wicked, yeah i'd definately be customising it to my own personal tastes. I swear cruisers used to be called custom bikes.. least they did in England.)

New exhaust pipes, check. And new mirrors.. sweet as. Apparently, the max speed on these bikes is 180-190. But above sorta 160 the cruiser position starts ripping you off the seat. But yes.. I have no passion for speeding on straights and I don't reckon i'll be doing above 150 round corners Though that shall have to be tested..

Bugger about the speedo.. was wondering why it has a digital speedo. Seems stupid to me.. And it has no tacho either so i'd probably get an after market tacho fitted as well. So far, so good.
