If the right person buys that then maybe Clive and Paul will both be wearing their bath robes/shower caps at the prize giving

As far as I'm aware, you can do anything you like as long as the bits and pieces were around in 1989 or earlier. Hmm GPX1000 might fit in my 750 frame, or even a gixxer 1100R motor

The post classic rules allow for replicas of the said era to be built,IE Steve Sangsters Graeme Crosby Replica GS1000R.iN THE 88-95 ERA There were several of these FZR600/400 bikes running in our Championship,Ones of note were Warren Turner,Robert Ryan and Dave Ogden and In fact this particular bike was built in 1989 by the guy I bought it off a year ago (Paul Easton). It should also be noted there are ATLEAST three others that I know of in the build stage and in fact 1 of those is ready to go for the Actrix series as well. Also the Vic club rules for Post classic are stated to be Pre 82 rules updated to 89,Therefore making Methanol legal in this class. As it should be as it was allowable in that era.Im sure anybody who was around in those days would remember Tony McMurdos Methanol/Nitro Methane burning ZXR400 or GPZ 500.Please remember if you are running Methanol or other Fuel additives to run the appropriate warning stickers on the Machine so the Flaggies and Crash crews Know what they are dealing with in the event of a fire.Further more ,It should be noted .The Yamaha FZR 400 and 600 have the same engine cases and Gear box etc.The only differences being the cylinders,Crank,Head and clutch(1 extra plate in the 600) all of which are allowed to be changed. The Honda might be a different story

Nice bike Billy - Reminds me of Wazza's beast - 105 hp and 140 kg - probably the best F2 bike in NZ in the early 90's - never went as fast on his R6.
    Q. Does that price include the Dork Tax?

You will find, I think, though I stand to be corrected (NOT) that the engine is likely to be considered to be a major component of a motorcycle.
This then means that if a model manufactured in or before 1989 had a 600cc engine in the same frame as the 400cc model then it is likely to be eligible.
However, just because the engine and frame are both from 1989 does not make the combination of the two meet the rule.

VMCC have typically taken their lead on Post Classic rules from the Post Classic guys as VMCC members tend not to be expert on those rules.

My own opinion, based on a gut feeling and not much else, is that such a bike, while it is likely to be pretty cool, is not in keeping with the spirit of the rule for competition.

Ahemmm , hello im Mr Ed
I had a couple of talks to Paul Stewart at MNZ and the Pres of the NZPCRR and as per the MNZ rule book, a bike is aged by the youngest "major component"which is either frame, engine , or swingarm. Within the pre 1989 period then mix and match as much as you like. BUT you must accept future rules adaptations to govern the class will mean its aged by that Youngest component.
    EG; 1988 CBR400 with 1989 600cc engine will be classed as a 1989.
It makes no diff to the class unless it is as follows , 1988 CBR400 frame with 1981 2 stroke engine , Makes it pre 89 but it smells more.
This rule as im told was to allow for same model bikes with diff engine sizes in the same eras like CBX400 & 550s, you can use either frame as they are the same but the year of the frame was the age factor .
There ya go , clear as mud.

    Cheers Paul.
