Scratches on helmet

Hey all,

Had an unfortunate incident where I've managed to get a couple of scratches on my helmet through the clear coating (wasn't dropped or anything) - is there anything that I should/can do to cover them up (eg a clear coat) or should I just leave it alone?

Surely that would depend on how the helmet is constructed. Is it fiberglass or polycarbonate?

The helmet was sitting on the floor under a low window sill (out of the sun) and people were waterblasting my house - there was a small candle holder sitting on the window sill and this got knocked off onto the helmet.

Helmet is only a few months hold... was just one of those freak accidents

Plastic then!!! If it's plastic, I wouldn't touch it with any petroleum based paint. Fiberglass composite should be ok if it's just been scratched.
For what it's worth, I scratched my helmet a couple of weeks ago and took the insurance route. I value my head and I'm in the Auto-Refinish industry.

I value mine too... would a scratch (looks like the clear coating for want of a better description) effect how safely the helmet protects you? It may have lost a little of the paint/colouring also...?

Google the make and model of the helmet to find out what it's made from. No point going further until you know that.

A scratch shouldn't effect safety as long as it hasn't had an impact.

i wouldnt worry, it wasnt dropped on the concrete from bike height so id expect the structural integrity to be intact.

Cheers guys... I guess I'll just have to live with it like that! Hate those freak incidents though...
