They were faced with the problem of staying British and staying shit or getting better by looking overseas for players and investment. The general population of Britain don't give a shit about participating in sport they just want to be spectators. I balme the nationwide teachers' strikes of the eighties where we lost all the momentum when there was no extra curricular sports or activities in schools for some time.

I think the protocol is a an official wake and scarf burning.....you know, "the king is dead, long live the king" as you pledge a new allegiance. Sailing the burning scarf out to sea on an old Kontiki fishing rig would be a nice touch.

You think you've got it bad, I work with mostly West Australians and we have to make a point of keeping the Dockers fans away from all sharp objects most weekends as they find new and improved ways of losing.

Carlton looked bloody good last week, hard to believe they've had such a bad losing trot, even allowing for some good recruiting. I watched Collingwood get pipped in the last few minutes last night by North Melbourne. Enthralling game, with North doing just enough to stay in touch then somehow falling over the line in front.
Jack Bloody Elliot. Spouted off about Essendon cheating and got caught doing the same thing worse. Dick. Cost us a million dollars and four years draft picks - first two wooden spoons.

I like the ceremony ideas! - but I know I can't change - the answer is to have a 'second team'. Sometimes it can take three sports to find a winner - but it's a grim day without at least something in the fourth division.

As far as 2008 goes - than goodness for the Celtics

How much suffering before you can give up on them - any guidelines?
    Are there rules??

Carlton beat Collingwood last week so they get a reprieve.
My uncle's a die-hard Carlton fan. I feel sorry for the poor bastard.
