Merv on the challenge section just beyond makara village
Merv on the challenge section just beyond makara village
here's my attempts - spent most of the time focussing on staying the course - a great event - have the utmost admiration for those who rode 1100 & 1150 GS machines - I wimped out and left mine at home
1. Kokopelli, BulaBil and Gerard before the event - Gerard has my utmost respect for punting his 1100GS around the course including all challenge sections as does BusaJim ;-) on his 1150A
2. The ever cheerful Merv at the end of the first challenge section
3.Kokopelli on his very capable R80GS Basic
4. Riders at Cannon Point Lookout above Upper Hutt
here's the balance of my shots
1. KTM riders at Cannon Point lookout
2. View to the South Island from Puketiro Block
3. Another view in the Puketiro Block
4. Almost nigthfall on the descent to Takapu Road - 'last run of the day' where I was joined by the man on the Cannondale - thanks for you company and help with the gates pal! :-)
Okay, the pics are flowing in at a pace now! Good work Aslan, and the rest of you too. Following on from my success this avo, I will now attempt to load some more of mine. You will note they are more of the scenery than the people, I do love getting into these out of the way places. I have to explain first that Idid not get my camera out very often on the ride as I was running on my own a lot of the time and just concentrating on getting through and staying on top. And I more than surprised myself really, the only off I had was when I unexpectedly came round a corner slap bang into a pair of trail riders running abreast.
Anyways, 1st pic is looking over Tawa from the new subdivision work up on the Horokiwi hills (you could see my place if you knew where to look). The next is yet another shot from the Cannon Point trig, looking down the Hutt river to Wellington harbour. Nos 3 & 4 also from the trig look over central & northern Upper Hutt and down into Whitemans Valley and the Mangaroa Valley !! That shows how high up we were, I was confused for a while as to what the flat areas above the hills were. No 5 is Spyda's chopper about to lift off and 6 is the view down into Naenae (!) from the first of the munitions stores. That also took me totally by surprise, I had no idea we were that close to the Hutt Valley.
isn't it time us older blokes were in bed Re-cycled - I guess it's OK if you don't have to go to work in the morning Cheers Aslan
And, carrying right on, the next is an out of sequence view onto Merv's part of Whitby, or close to it at centre left, 3 shots of those ever-present munitions stores, a salute from the organiser during a pause in his efforts to 'sweep' me home, and a crowd scene from the after match do, with some veteran adventure riders in the foreground . Which about exhausts me for tonight, my broadband is slower than a slow thing, I expect the young un's have used up the monthly gigs again. Over and out.
Well yup, you are right for all that Aslan - it is getting very close to the time of night when I turn into a toad iffn I aint in the sack ! So its good night from him. Cheers.
Yeah crikey what am I still doing up at my age, shoulda gone to bed hours ago.
Re-cycled, nice shots of the sheep too, at least 4skins bike wouldn't have been lonely out there all night after Spyda's off. I've given you and Aslan your first bling as well for your photos but I'm not allowed to give you more until I have time to spread around a bit more.
Good night
Cheers
Merv

Great photo's everyone, and thanks to all the organisers for a fantastic day.
I can't imagine the amount of work and time it must take to come up
with a course like that.
Here's a few sorry pics from me.
The night before I had a nagging feeling that I'd forgotten to do something,
but it wasn't until I took my third picture and my camera went dead that
I realized what it was

Conti TKC's do 130/80-17, and probably a narrower 17 for the front.
Did the CCA myself over the weekend and had a ball.
Was thinking of doing the 42nd traverse ride some time soon with the wife also on her bike. She is very new to off road riding and i would welcome your comments on the degree of difficulty. how long did it take 1 way, which direction did you doth the ride, and any other comments you may have.
