fear not oh self appointed and omniscient acoustic experts! Western springs demise is not signed sealed and delivered just yet.

Rest assured, many people are working to see that the place can keep operating, and that includes at least 2 firms of acoustic engineers plus I don't know how many lawyers. Needless to say, half of what has been written here is bollocks (would take to long to pick thorugh it, but I'm not surprised given the abscence of any technical education from the media) and the other half should be qualified.

please also be aware that it is NOT a simple problem. 20 different high speed vehicles changing direction on a continually varying surface with different drivers, gearing, lines in varying wind conditions and ground absoprtion leads to a right big bloody mess that is not easily assessed, designed for, or understood by anyone.

Everything you hear in the media has been sensationalised, hyped and made to sound much more juicy than is the case but frankly, I don't have the energy to correct any of it anymore!

    Gee thanks.

I'll just STFU then. Or not.

I've had enough of your sometimes friendly, sometimes pompous attitude. If you can't be bothered sharing then don't say anything.

If you accuse people of talking shit, then have the intestinal fortitude to accuse and instruct the excrement spreaders. Stop being a typical oblique Christian and say something for goodness sake. How's that for generalisation to go up against your potted generalisations?

YEs I got stuff wrong. I always do. I also admit when I do, but I would like to learn, not just be blown off by the "Guru". I've had a lot to do with the Western Springs facility as a Roady, a potential competitor, a drum tech, t-shirt sales, and years of paying to see speedway and concerts. For the reasons you mentioned it will be impossible to beat a 80dB sound limit. You just need the wind to blow the wrong way and you're screwed.

If you have an inside track then tell us, but quite frankly your opinion is worth squat to me. Founded as it is in arrogance and all.

On the Breakfast show this morning, they had the residents who were complaining, they had a few fairly valid points. In the last few years, the speedway has had new promoter pushing them to get more money, this meant more races, and they also up-graded their PA system to have louder than crap speakers. Before was bearable, but now its too much.

Maybe if they reverted to before...

You know... if the conspiracy theories about the Illiteratus are true, there are probably coded instructions for world domination hidden in those downloadable Yamaha ignorami bike models!

    Sorry.

    I think I need a drink.

If they were to pose any credible thread they would have to be written in TXT-speak with no punctuation. But then those to whom they were targeted, with their average attention span of 16.41 nanoseconds, would be unlikely to decipher the instructions anyway.

    "Duh, fuckitsa bike modl"

my bad dude. Not the way i'd intended it to be taken. I just didn't feel like I had the time to go through and pull out what was wrong and what was right from 4 pages of threads but I get frustrated by all the misinformation that has been dished out over the subject as 'facts'. All I'm saying is take the media (where almost all of us get our info from) with a large grain of salt.

I thought I was sharing anyway... everyone seems to be saying that speedway is just going to roll over but isn't aware that lots of technical people are working hard to prevent that.

can't please all of the people all of the time I guess.
    What are the options?
Come out and say something in black and white: get labelled judgemental swine
Come out and say something objective without bias(this is a typical christian thing to do??? REALLY!?): too oblique
Come out and say something with no facts, just an opion: talking BS

BTW- I'm actually working on the speedway issue myself so I'm not really allowed to say too much more or I my role in sorting it out. Sorry if that sounds pompous to anyone but its the way it is. If you really want more information, please do everyone a favor and call the papers/TV stations and tell THEM to stop being BS merchants and give some decent facts on the subject.

Yeah, the lawyers should make good sound-absorbing material.

Seriously, does anyone know if there is a commercial noise-cancellation system that could be applied here, or is it just too complex with several moving noise sources?

    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Aaargh I'm sorry. You DO realise that there is now a tremendous amount of stale popcorn throughout bikerdom thanks to your measured response?

I shall endeavour to hang loose, and stop being such a small minded pain in the neck.
