Hey there everyone. I've listed a pile of pre Christmas local rides / fundraisers on the Feilding Riders Club Webpage http://groups.google.com/group/feild...ule-2009?hl=en I'm sure there are a lot more.

I'm also looking to borrow some female riding gear for the Coast to Coast, medium size .....
Life is to be enjoyed ... Bikes, women, beer and chocolate

This is in conjunction with Mowgli and myself. We will be there to talk about harard identification and safe riding. Have a bit of a talk and then head up apiti way.. Time dependant we may or may not make it to apiti. we can turn round and back to Ashhurst if time is running short.
Experienced riders welcome but ride will mainly be concentrating on learner riders.
Lead and tail riders will be kept to a minimum speed with tips on cornering and braking.
Hope to make this a regular thing but we will see how well it is recieved. Will be talking to mowgli during the week to work out some details.

    TIME TO THINK ABOUT CORNERING

Look to where you want to go, not to to where you want to avoid. Examples of things you want to avoid are the rider in front, oncoming traffic and the road surface just in front. Where you want to go is the exit to the corner. If your focus is too close then your line through the corner will be erratic and disconcerting. Look to the exit and you'll be amazed how much difference it makes. To help with this we will be encouraging a 3-4 second split between riders to remove at least one of the distractions that might cause you to focus too close.

Never chop the throttle or brake mid corner. If you are too fast into a corner then braking and/or chopping the throttle mid corner is more likely to result in a bin than simply carrying the extra speed and hanging on. Stability in a corner depends a lot on the distribution of weight between front and rear tires. In particular there should be more weight on the larger rear tire. If you brake or roll off the throttle you transfer more weight to the front tire and compress the front shocks. Trust me, this is bad in a corner especially if it's done quickly (in a panic). To maintain the correct balance of weight front-to-rear you need to be accelerating smoothly. We will be encouraging you to reduce your corner entry speed such that you can exit the corner around 10kph faster than you started - ie accelerate gently through the corner.

If you don't understand or want to know more then please ask. Others may also benefit from the explanations given. The speeds we will be leading will provide opportunity to explore these concepts with margin for error. This will not be a fast ride - not even slightly - so save the blat for another time.

    Great link 86

Edit: I should add that there are no new ideas in motorcycling. It's all about tapping into the collective and sharing what you find.

Cheers Rob. I read it a few years back and it's always worked for me. It's totally how I think road riding should be once the basics are learned. Get it right and it's bike heaven
