    So... the Gentle Annie...

Given the day i thought i'd try out the Gentle Annie as it seem it's had been fully sealed now. Set out from Vegas at 11am and did the boring straight through main drag route to Hastings where i fueled up and had some lunch. Once sorted I set out to Omahu and the turn off to Gentle Annie, got buzzing along and was pleasantly surprised by the flow of the road, lots off well surfaced sweeping bend punctuated by the occasional 45kph posted corners.. Nice! There's some lovely scenery through there early on which gives way eventually to forestry which reminded me a little of the Napier-Taupo road back in the day.
Further on through the forestry parts it began to tighten up with signs of the afore mention finished road works but all good then I hit what can only be described as some piss poor tarsealing! The tar itself was actually sticking to my tires and they in turn were picking up every loose stone in sundry, I can only imagine what the inside of my front guard and hugger look like after being scraped by a million and one stones that were stuck to my tires. I stopped at a bridge and had a look see, summarized that if taken gently said stones stuck to my tires would eventually fall off and the tires would clean themselves up, had a death stick and went gingerly on my way, after another couple of k's muppeting along taking corners with tires fully loaded with stones (which is a weird feeling i tell ya) I stopped yet again and decided that i'd have to clean the tires by hand as centrifugal forces weren't doing the job for me and I was worried if i rode the bike any faster the stones flying off at speed my do some damage.
Once this was taken care of things came right and all was well, there are some steep roads through there but nothing that couldn't be handled.

The tight section and bad tarseal out of the way the road once more opened up into some lovely corners and scenery again punctuated by the odd tighter section, good stuff! There was bugger all traffic and I wound the bike up a wee bit as the road was open and readable but kept things in check, just quick enough to enjoy the 14 under a bit of load in the corners...
So, even though there some hassles during the ride through I highly recommend the Gentle Annie as a ride, just take something to brush the stones from your tires after you get through the shit tarsealing job and you'll be golden if you give it all the respect a country road needs to be given ie; damp patched in sheltered areas etc...
Wouldn't recommend it in the wet though. Could be a bitch after a frost too...

    Speed Triple is go!

    Bike is fixed.........I think?

Realistically, no more than an hour to replace the sprag clutch. Of course when I went to start it, the battery was drained after Monday's effort

Quick charge and it started right up

Spot the old part and compare to the new one.

Just say the word..although not quite as good now there's no gravel...

Sarge is spot on about the awesome road on the Napier side, but the rest is pretty damn good too! And the views in places are really nice.

Did a return trip to Otamauri(about 25km from Omahu) with John and Janet one evening after work in summer, nice road and had a feed at Puketapu pub which was primo.
John said the road(on left) just passed Sherenden and loops to meet at Otamauri is great as well, but time was against us,and burgers were calling to us that night.

Good road. Just need to be aware that at the Otamuri end there can be a lot of gravel from the farm driveways and poo's from stock movement. But all in all its a go ride.
Tis a Yamahahahaha G. Just thrash it like you stole it. Gixxer 4 ever
It really did look very unloved. Specially as it was next to the R1 that the whole crowd wanted to look at. Gixxer 4 ever

Mint and glad you missed the rain! I caught it just down Featherston St, so only for a couple of minutes. Of course, I would've missed it completely if I hadn't run out of gas At least now I know it's 65km from light to empty.
