    Ah. Some sense is made.

And the secret school has been known to me for some time.

Y'know all those times when you were at the pub, before you got married (and probably after), and all the gurrrls went off to the 'powder room' together, and because you were too busy talking shit with your mates or too pissed to notice? Or to wonder why they all needed to take their handbags with them?

    The secret school, Dude.

    ... and that's what I think.

The LTSA is just playing a catch up game - applying regs out of Europe via Australia - but the cars we are using them on are from Japan where they seem to have no rules at all...so the LTSA slaps on patches to all the holes that keep appearing...but the obvious fuckwit in all this is the WoF inspector, who it appears doesn't have a fucking clue...blame it on him.

Another misconception is that the Wof is not FOR 6 mths,it's a check on the condition of a vehicle since it's LAST WoF,and the present time in checking it - no crystal balls are applied as to the future use of said vehicle....if a stop light fails the next day, then it no longer complies to the WoF standard, just because it passed a WoF yesterday has nothing to do with it's present condition....tyres included.

AA checks be warned, i have seen some extremely shocking things that the AA checks have missed, break discs on vechiles that were broken with a huge chunks of steel missing. cracked wheel rims. cracked engine mounts. lose brake calipiers. faulty bearings. these were just some. so please never take their word on it. unfortunately some things could be missed but others not acceptable. so if you wish to use an AA person to do a check on your vechile, i hope you get a good one.

Sounds to me like the LTSA has the best of intentions, but needs to get it's shit together. Also, i wasn't aware the WOF thing. So this means if you have an accident and your insurance company found out a brake light failed and it was the day after the WOF you're fucked?

    .
Can't do that Motu, single out an individual as being responsible, one has to generalise and blame an entity, like takiniteasy has, except he spoiled it by mentioning an individual at the end.

I can read Japanese, so I can tell you what fuse is what. My shoulder is better and I will be riding again by the weekend, providing I can find the pry bar to bend the headlight/gauges assemblely back to shape.
I'm free any time so just let me know.

Like with any rules it depends on who you get on the day, and how they are feeling. I bought a car in from Aussie 2 years ago, passed all the compliance shite that you go through, has had 1 other Wof and passed ok, but this time an inspector 'happened' to be at the garage where I take it and told me I had to remove a sticker on the windscreen (even though it didn't obscure the view), and was concerned about the tinted windows (even though they passed by 1%). What could I do I, I could argue the point, and don't get a warrant or remove the sticker. You will never win against beuracrecy (sp?).

That's it in a nutshell - the rules can be applied in a beurocratic way,and if so 90% of vehicles will fail the test - but most of the inspectors are human and have their own version of the rules, based on their experiance and knowledge, this is how we get discrepancies between inspections - you can remove the humanity if you like, but it's a cold heartless fail....

Manu -A couple of suggestions for ya here.
The quick fix for the tv thing is to cover the screen.Provided the screen isnt multi use and used for your air conditioning. My suggestion would be to glue a picture of you and the lady concerned directly onto the screen so it can never be used.
A more permanent cure with toyotas is simply to pull the whole thing out of the dash. There are only 2 screws holding the soround in place and 4 holding the tv in. Its what is called a double din fitting and you could fit either a NZ sterio in the hole with a storage box under it or if you've got the money one of those fancy double din radio/cd/tape/mp3 players.
    Regarding the AA inspection.
Motu has covered it pretty well. BUT
If you bought the car from a licenced dealer and it diddn't have a less than 28 day old WOF you can go back to them-It is a legal requirement to sell a motor vehicle with a new WOF (-28 days old)
The same applies to public to public sales -unless the vendor specificly sold the goods as is where is. -I don't rate ya chances tof gettin money from public though
If the AA inspector noted that there was for example 3.0mm of tread or more on that tyre then I'd give them a call --if he put down 2.0mm or less then basicly -you were told the tyre was borderline.
To see a life newly created. To watch it grow and prosper. Isn't that the greatest gift a human being can be given?
