The quick fix for the tv thing is to cover the screen.Provided the screen isnt multi use and used for your air conditioning. My suggestion would be to glue a picture of you and the lady concerned directly onto the screen so it can never be used.
A more permanent cure with toyotas is simply to pull the whole thing out of the dash. There are only 2 screws holding the soround in place and 4 holding the tv in. Its what is called a double din fitting and you could fit either a NZ sterio in the hole with a storage box under it or if you've got the money one of those fancy double din radio/cd/tape/mp3 players.
    Regarding the AA inspection.
Hey Frosty - yeah thats sounds like a goer (pulling it out). Anything to get a warrant in a hurry really. And even i can hack stuff OUT.

The AA inspection was done cos we bought private. It's been a learning experience. Like Motu said. They aren't WOF checks. They just cost a LOT more.....

Our car had a dvd player with a screen in the dash. When it went to complaince the dealer altered it so the screen only came on if the handbrake was on (after talking to the complaince guys). They did however allow the screen to show the rear view camera when it was in reverse though.

Ok manu --put the car into low ratio forwards. There are two screws in the dash center facing upwards, once ya take them out you'll be able to just pull the panel out--its held in by about 6 clips and it sometimes take a lil bit of force.
thinking about it the easy way would be just to undoo the screws holding the screen in and unplug the plugs in the back of the screen then just drop the screen back in.

... or you could leave it out, and install a pie warmer. Or a mini beer fridge. Or one of those little "keep me safe shrines to the driving gods because my driving is shite" thingos.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

I hearby nominate AKLD drugs as being the finest in the land??

And it's HER car. So it won't be a pie warmer - possibly a vege crisper or a rice cooker? My car would have the ManlinessReducingDevicetm to make it safe for all the ladies out there...
