I wave at everything on two wheels while I'm commuting (including push bikes!) - if the traffic conditions allow it. Unfortunately I'm usually operating the clutch, brake, throttle and steering all at once when in traffic so the other riders often just get a last minute nod that they don't have time to respond to.

    .

This is because, in fact, the standard 50cc scooter is a glorified pushbike.

I go faster on my pushbike - should I be wearing race leathers?

Pfft, waving is sooooo overated! I prefer to get past the scooter in front of me and give them a brown eye that's waaay more fun!

Depends on the scooter, but sure a 50cc may appear to be a glorified push bike but they tend to go at the 50ish speed most of the time hence longer time exposed to danger. On my 125 I spend most of my time closer to 70/80 (closed roads obviously) and it will do 100 no worries... then you get into things like the GP800.... anyway I percieve you are talking about 50cc machines/mopeds rather than scooters in general

Anyway that is why when reviewing any bike we tend to always wear full gear and full face helmets when possible... has annoyed some potential advertisers but oh well. Do as we say and what we do seems to be a good message when in a position that could have some sway over others...

If scooter riders started waving/nodding then it would alienate the Harley riders who also never wave/nod.
