Feel sorry for his family. Shark warning signs had been up for two weeks, he still went out and now the shark is to blame. The 'officials' do not believe that two were involved, just the one, very aggressive. Not a nice way to go at all.

Its called the balance of nature. If a preditor kills any other species we have no problem with it. It goes not show that we are not the top of the food chain. I do feel sorry for the friends and whanau for their loss and trauma experienced.

Shark kills man as part of natural process - KILL SHARK!!!
Man kill other man as part of drink-driving/speeding etc - take his licence off him for 18 months and MAYBE send him to prison for 6 months but NEVER kill him.
Moral? Introduce drinking/careless/bad drivers to shark, - and be prepared to rescue shark.

idiots.... a shark kills someone in saffa land and well thety look at the nets but i have never heard of such a big shark hunt??? Does aussie have shark nets. if so then it's the govnment/public to blame if not it's the government/public to blame. Leave the poor shark alone. Feel sorry for the family but will killing the shark change things/make them feel better.... doubt it. PROTECTED SPECIES is just that .... protected no govournment should be able to overthrow that just to appease the public.

aparrently thier game wardens or whatever have been given the go ahead to dispose of the shark when they find it (according to tonights news) %#$@%$@#%$@#%$#%#$!%$! pisses me off i think i should go cull the polititions. If there were like a million bizziol GW sharks i suppose there wouldn't be so much a fuss. it would be like a tuna accidently killing a person so they kill the tuna. But a protected species AND after the guys were warned.... grrrrrrrr

I agree with pretty much everything said so far.

Looks like a prime example of nature at work. Can't really blame anyone except the shark food. Not the sharks fault for wanting to eat. Not like there was any maliciousness in it. We're the only one's who are like that.

I can understand why some prefer animals to humans.

Yep, humans are doing a great job of stuffing the world up. Culling wild animals because we encroach on their territory and cutting down forests for expansion and resources. Its only a matter of time before mother nature says enough is enough.
