Happy in your job?

I am havung a great time.
I have tried a few things out, eventually settling for store work because it pays the bills, then becoming a coldstore supervisor (which means hand loading containers with 60lb ctns 6 days a week on a salery, then spending the 7th day doing bullshit paperwork, while the casual labour is earning more per week cause they are on wages and actually paid for the hours they do), so I took a complete change of direction....a drainlaying apprenticeship....our company does all sorts of construction work, so it something new every day, huge trucks and diggers, gigantic sandpits, knuckle dragging oafs to feel superior to, long drives in trucks to enjoy, did I mention diggers , but also fuckin concrete .

oh did I mention time and a half after 40?, I am making more money than ever (finally) and I am just the boy....cool

Holy crap, sounds just like me.Tried a few things ended, up managing a coolstore, long hours,stress,5/8 of F.A. for it.
spent yesterday instaling home irrigation, enjoying the view over tasman bay, today, small engine maintenance,and retail, tommorow ?

Generally I enjoy work as I have a great team around me, but we are being slowly morphed into uncaring disgruntled individuals by those who know better.

There are still enough laughs to make things interesting but after 6 years I know it's time for a change.

thats the thing i love about my job. I manage a Fibre store in a yarn mill, and work by myself 95% of the time, so the only arsehole I have to worry about is me....although ya go stir crazy talking to yaself all day.....





....It's the arguing that I cannot stand....When I argue with myself its like arguing with my wife....I never win!

I can't consider being a postgraduate student a job - it's a bit of a grey area really... Quite happy with it, although it can be frustrating at times.

However, I have a side-job as an assistant teacher that I am rather disappointed in. So disappointed in fact that I was extremely close to going over to tell my boss that he could shove this piece of unprofessional rubbish somewhere the sun doesn't shine. It's horrible being supplied with teaching resources that are both uninteresting and a waste of time... No wonder that the students have a hard time motivating themselves, I know I would.
This coupled with "slightly below average" (as in non-existant/utter crap) communication between the people who organise (tui) this course makes the job an altogether unfulfilling experience.

If there is re-incarnation I'm coming back as me.

no, its fuckin good money for doing fuck all, but i am being underutilised and my brain is wasting away, i have seen the entire internet. i would rather be busy or at least simulated to make the day go faster.

The workmates and customers i work with, we have a ball, everyone's so positive, i’ve never had so many laughs in years. i have been offered bigger salaries to go elsewhere but i have proved in the past that you can’t put a price on happiness. the days for me just fly, and they are 12 hour days too.

Suppose I should say what inspired this thread. Been at Weltec for the last 2 months doing Auto Refinishing, really enjoying it there. But today I did my first afternoon of work experience. Had a chat with the guy and gal that work there and they were very bleak about everything. Said it was a dull job and they're getting sick of it. Mind you they've both been in it for 10+ years. Even so, It's got me wondering "shit, what have I got myself into"

They did give me some hope, they said working in a bigger workplace is usually better since they always have something for you to do and it's often more challenging and rewarding work. A mate of mine that had been through Weltec doing the same course is in a bigger place and he's enjoying himself (which convinced me to do the course). But I think I'm in the right place to learn since it's pretty small time and cruisey.

Absolutely love it. Flying a high performance jet on a global basis. Currently on a week over in Geneve. Apart from an apprenticeship as a motorcycle mechanic, I've flown all my life, law enforcement, airlines and corporate. I would do it all again the same if I had the chance. Some people have to work for a living..! The rest of us fly.

I chucked my job in a couple months ago, I got my motorcycle mechanic qualification a couple years ago and worked in shitty bike shops ever since.

Yup I love my job, one reason is I get to speak to people like scumdog every shift......Plus I get to tell them what to do and where to go, legally .......Now ya just can't get any better than that...

I've thought about becoming a cop. Can you get in without a car licence?

I don't think I will be changing career, or job in the forseeable future....

I have been workin for the same company the last ??? shit in 2009 it will be 20yrs... started from school back in 1989. Me Dad told me, "go out get a job, earn money... ya dont want to be bothering with going to uni..." So I did... was not meant to be for a long time at this one, working in the poultry livestock industry.... a couple of weeks at the max... but that is become a few more than that.... like all jobs.. has it moments... but I walk into work everyday with a smile on my face and happy as hell a shit load of the time... but then there have been the shit... "I hate this" moments... but they make the good seem even better...

Working tomorrow!!!!! yay... one more day and the weekend... god damn it... two days until Monday and work do I have to take 2 days off???

in the small space of a year and a half i've worked in The Baby Factory, Hell's Pizza, Animates and now will be working at a vets... lol.. part time jobs suck (first two) and so does casual work (animates) ... but FINALLY I'll be getting a job that I can really try to apply myself in and learn loads! and well, use my damned vet nursing qualifications finally! lol.

I'm kinda scared though... in 3 weeks time... AAAH!
