    I Think I've Killed It.

According to the bike shop where the slightly mangled remains lie, it is likely that the TRX is dead.

    Long live the TRX.

I have been casting about for replacement ideas within my budget ($6500-$7500), and given that I am a cash purchaser I will be "negotiating".

I wanted some ideas from you fellas. The TRX is/was very adaptable but I am starting to pay the price for numerous youthful accidents involving sports, girls, drunken binges, car accidents and motorcycle accidents. Therefore I am after something that doesn't punish the knees too badly.

I've found two bikes that I'm very interested in.

    1. 98 Honda Hornet 600, 4800kms, $6495
    2. 94 Yamaha YZF750R, 12,500kms, $6995.

Any other suggestions/advice gladly accepted. Please bear in mind that I will probably just ignore all advice and buy the shiniest/fastest/best handling bike within my budget anyway.

Makes sure the bike shop low balls the wreck when the insurance company asks for a value, then buy it back and make a streetfighter...

Then buy another bike... One bike good... Two bikes better.

Or you could tell 'Kerryg' I'm sure he'd be up for YET ANOTHER bike to play round with.

Everyone keeps saying that, and it's a nice idea, but I just don't have the time or motivation to head down that route. The frame on the TRX would need to be straightened and if that doesn't work out then you are left with what you started out with - a wreck.

It's a thought, but I don't have a "thing" for Bandit 600s at all. I'll have to think about that one though.

She's good, but the budget is fixed.

I couldn't afford to maintain a Ducati properly.

The Raptor is cool but too expensive.

I'm a huge Hornet fan and owned a Hornet FS a while back after trying all the other usual suspects . So much fun for your money, reliable, cheap to run, pokey etc etc.

    I vote Hornet.

Yeah... I guess you're right... I came to the same conclusion when my ZXR was written off... But that was coz my engine had high Ks on it, I would have done it otherwise...

$450 to straighten the frame... If the forks and brakes etc aren't faffed you could have a fighter pretty cheaply... I didn't have it in me to do any work on the ZXR so I talked to Twincam in Paraparam, they offered to do mine up for $1200... incl Frame, forks, risers, bars, clocks and lights + tail reshape etc.

(Bearing in mind my frame was fecked and the forks totally shot, clocks & lights mashed, radiator squashed, seat unit fairing etc gone, it wasn't too bad as it included fixing all that)

If you can get your bike back for under 1k - add in around 1k to fix it you've got a pretty good second bike for ~2k all up...

In hidsight I should have done it... but that's easy to say now... Have a chat to Randall at Twincam in pram.

    Cheers,

    Sedge.

PS. Guess what I just bought ? Yup, a streetfighter 91 ZXR750... gets delivered Jan 5th

    I'd buy the Hornet.

But *I'd* like to know how a six-year-old bike can manage to have only 4800 on the clock. Must have been in storage or summat. Was it NZ new?
