Yes they are - 10000km between cam belts is expensive. Plus the fuel tank rubs on the front frame member and ruptures requiring either repeated repairs or modification to the front mounting point, the carbed versions spit back if they are set up exactly right, and fairing panels detach due to cracked mounting holes. Plus, they are old. The 750 Paso is the ugly sister of the family, and the 900SS is nice but waaaay too many Ks.Originally Posted by Blakamin
I keep saying that my budget is fixed at $6.5k to $7.5k. If I can get the CBR going reasonable cheaply I might be able to stretch the budget to $8.5k if I can sell it. I can't justify spending any more as I have a mortgage, I have to by a "new" car this year, and I have to start house extensions. It's all very well to suggest stretching it a bit, but I just can't. I'm not willing to spend my entire budget on a Ducati over a decade old, especially when that is within the period that Ducati's quality was at best questionable. I want to have a fun reliable toy that I can go on my once a month ride without having to wonder what is going to break next. This isn't a slur on Ducati at all, but you have to remember (as F5Dave said) that prior to TPG's investment, Ducati was not in a good financial or engineering state.
