    Replacing handlebars on a VTR250?

i bought a vtr on monday night and this morning was my first chance to have a good look at it and the bars have had black tape wound round them to cover rusty chrome whats involved in replacing them as far as the controlls go , do they just un bolt or are wires etc threaded up the bars...also i would suspect that the chain and sprockets will need replacing in the near future whats that going to cost ......cheers jim.......http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...7/DSCF2485.jpg

I wouldn't've thought Honda would do something silly like putting the cables through the bars -- it isn't a cruiser anyway. So it'll just be a matter of undoing some screws on the bottom of the switch blocks, and then you can just slide them off. You might find it easier to undo the bars first, otherwise you might not have enough slack in the wiring to pull them off.

Those are nice looking bars for the VTR; stock ones are much too high.

Bar replacement is simple. No wires down the inside of the bars. And that chain looks stuffed. Chain and sprocket set is about 200-250 with a quality oring chain.

shop around, you may find an aftermarket one that fits.
i cant remember if the vtr ones have the we holes in them for locating the switch blocks. most oem ones do, stops them twisting around.
    I got a copy for a bandit250 for $30 bucks, suzuki wanted $120!!!!
try ventura, the make a good range.

Get clip ons for it. Or alternatively you can help me pay for clip ons and you can have my handle bars.

No rust whatsoever off a 1998 VTR250, in that sort of bronzeyish colour.
