Doing engine mods on it is really a waste of time and money. Better off putting the money towards your 400/600 full licence upgrade.

As for the repairing the fairing yeah go hard. Maybe even do the painting yourself (hire compressor) to save even more. Just remember when it comes to painting, put in lots of effort, be paitent and take your time.

Heaps of people hear are in the know about panel work/painting (not me), so tap their wisdom and save some dollars. Otherwise you're throwing money away as you won't recoup it when it comes time to sell.

John - i had a zzr for a good length of time, not much you can do to the engine to get more power, just make sure you service ir regularly(every 5000kms, chain oil and filter), mine first started its life as a red with pink stickers, later in its life i turned in to high gloss black, with crome stickers.

You can seleve the exhusts with just stanless steel i did that with mine.

A well riden zzr can put alot of things to shame, i did 50's around taupo on my zzr, which arn't to shabby for a parrel twin 250cc, which is a sports tourer not a sports bike. My wife when she road it, blew many people away, best one was she was two up(a friend of hers on back(another girl) went to a motorcycle rally with her father, she was blowning away guys on all these souped up harleys and buell's, They at first though she was on a 600, but when they were told it was only a 250, they did not look very happy, even while two up by girls. I had my old zzr250 off the speedo, and i was leaving a vtri prelude(jap import) behind.

So you don't need more power, you just need to learn it ride it better, personally i put a 130 rear on it than the standard 140, made it turn in a lot quicker, if you are gonna start pushing the bike alot, i would tell you take the center stand off, yes its handy, but i know of someone who got caught with center stand on there bike.

    Enjoy

Bananaman has some good advice for you John,

If you want some power for the straights, I would spend my money on a Nitrous system, kits start from about $1000, or you could make your own for a lot cheaper. You can unbolt when It comes time to sell, and bolt them on to your next bike. The only other modifications with this would be a free flow exhaust and a mabey colder plugs(not neccesary thou).

Stay away from the NOS brand or its copies, they don't jet at solinoids so the can't provide a steady nitrous/fuel flow.Plus numerous other design flaws. The only brand I can recall of the top of my head is company based in England called 'Highpower'. There are German and Japanese brands out there too.

Don't both nos's, learn to ride the wheels off first, just look at TS he can ride his 150 and kick many 600 even people on 1000cc bikes.

Bikes are boring in a straight line, you buy them for twistys so nos's arn't gonna help ya much

wow thanks for all the replies.

    Well, I have decided thus:
Just wrap the current pipes in bigger metal - goto the engineers or whatever?...

Paint it myself (hehe) thanks lumer - still dont know what color kawa green!? *shudder*

Currently I'm more than happy with its preformance, Infact more than happy.
Its being over 180 (well off the speedo anyway) oh yes, I'm light 60kg or so and there was a nice tailwind to but that was fun!

Ah, I love the handling of the bike myself - I took a clubsport out and a civic, in some twisties, near kamo north - I think they were surprised espically with the L plates on.. lol

But I went and picked up the bike today, it still needs some work but I wanted it for over christmas so I could go see family etc, and it isnt really bad, not as pretty as it once was but with a new coat of paint no one will be the wiser.

It was pouring down today when I picked it up - and I noticed my tires werent as good as I thought... (140 on the back 110 on front I think :S) but I was *floating* all over the place, the tires were not cleaning the water away from the contact area of the tire hence drifting/panning.. So I was wondering what the bike would be happier on, its currently running arrowmax front and rear.

Thanks for all the help people.

a special thanks to erik for getting me the manual thanks mate.

Get some Dunlop GPR70's and make sure the pressures are set up right.
You will be looking at just under $500 for the pair but money well spent.
And mabey change the fork oil and seals, they are almost 15 years old.
Change the brake fluid too, and mabey replace the pads.

John its probably over tyred. Try a size smaller as suggested. My mates Patah 500 handles a lot better when he did this. IE- try to get it as close to the front tyre size. Also even though tyre sizes are the same the profiles vary. Also one with a more grooves could be more suitable to disperse the water. Yip smaller bikes are fun as you've found out. Enjoy your m/c John.
