She is going to be an overstayer soon is she not? so who cares about all the legal crap.
I have had overseas flatmates when we lived in queenstown, its just the way they are, their culture.
Damn you guys crack me up - fucking red neck self superior hillbillies. The two worst flatmates I ever had were kiwis. Shes leaving the country in two weeks so obviously no plans to be an overstayer.

It is their house, and their rules, and if I didn't like it, I can either put up with it or leave. Simple as that. And if I didn't keep the place tidy etc I would expect a rocket.

She doesn't want me to go into her room to open 2 miserable windows, but expects me to let her use my computer in my room. Take take take, but no give?

I don't touch any of her stuff. I am not doing or expecting anything of her that I would not be prepared to accept myself. Do unto others as you would like them to do to you.

Anyway, I told her yesterday to hit the road by Tuesday night, so hopefully I can sleep in clean fresh tidy peace on Tuesday.

Exactly the reason that if i go flatting again it wont be with the house owner.

You can't think "my house my rules" AND expect to have a flatmate.

They are called boarders. Perhaps you should advertise as such.....

I kind of agree with you on this one!

Good God...Maybe you should also stipulate "No worthless immigrants welcome".... in that advertisement as well.

Some open and honest communication with your next boarder should be had, so you both know where you stand and what the expectations are...

This thread is a nice friendly reminder of why I have never "flatted" before... I would sincerely suggest you think about your ability to share your home with another before you go out looking into again.

When she came in on Sunday afternoon, I started to try and expain to her why I do things like open windows etc etc, and I did it with an open mind and to see what her reply was. I had barely even got started and she just turned around and walked off!! So that was it, she made the decision on whether she stays or goes for me, and hence I implemented it.

I didn't just throw her out cos I'm a mean bastard, I gave her a chance, and looked past a few things that pissed me off, but everybody's got a limit, and she found mine.

Same here, but never imagined it would be this bad. I don't think I will be inviting anyone to share my home again, unless I know them well and its only short term cos they're in a jamb.

Don't worry I didn't take it as you having a go.

I just wanted to make it clear that I am not some kind of wierd freak who expects things of someone that I wouldn't except myself. I am just treating her as I would expect someone else to treat me in these circumstances.

She's gone alright. 3:30 yesterday afternoon ( Tuesday ). Didn't try and rip me off, probably thought better of it ( I took the day off work to make sure, and to make sure she left ). So it's back to domestic bliss by myself. The experience didn't kill me, so I guess it will make me stronger, and certainly more wise and careful. But alas, there will not be a next time, for me it is just not worth the hassle. Live and learn.

Good time to give an unwanted cat a home, they like spare rooms.
