Ba! Distance running makes no difference to the wear of one's knees, provided one uses the correct shoes (and replaces the shoes when they are worn out), doesn't recklessly exceed one's physical limits (over training), stretches properly, etc etc....

I have plenty other events to motivate me to train, none of which involve activities I hate, so I don't really see the point of entering.

10 weeks to go! Hows everyone's training going? Should be starting to train specifically for the event now

Aiming to do the half - preferably under 1:30. Need to average 4.17 - long way off at the moment.

What goal times do you guys have in mind?

Slowly racking up the k's. Doing between 30-40 per week. Need more time for some long (16k+) runs.

Thats a quick half Dave, 1:30! How long have you been running?

I'm hoping to go under 4 for the marathon, should be doable as long as i don't blow up

Doing the 10k fun run today, run with the Rotorua marathon... hoping to go under 43min, took me 51:30 last year.

4 hours is quite a respectable time for the full! I don't think I could do that. The training required is that much more for the marathon. How many ks are you racking up?

Good luck with the 10k run.

I started about 2.5 years ago. I've been running regularly each week - just ticking over to maintain base fitness. I did the Auckland half in 1:38 in 207 and that was on an unknown, undulating course. I've started training earlier this time and will slowly ramp up. Also mixing in some sprint and hill work unlike last time. The biggest threat to the wellington will be wind. A strong northerly or southerly will make evans bay pde a challenge (although some respite around the various bays there).
