Crash ends Taupo man's high speed driving

    17.12.04 10.30am

A man who led police on a chase through Taupo at speeds up to 180km/h early this morning, was caught after he crashed into a farm paddock.

Constable Shane McNally said in a statement police had tried to stop a Nissan car being driven dangerously in Taupo town at 3.20am today.

The vehicle failed to stop and was pursued along several streets.

When speeds reached 180km/h, pursuit was abandoned in line with police policy, he added.

As police later travelled to the registered address for the vehicle, they found it about 12km from where pursuit had been abandoned.

The Nissan had crashed and rolled into a farm paddock.

A 28-year-old Taupo man was found lying near the vehicle. He had suffered minor injuries and was taken to Rotorua hospital for treatment.

Mr McNally said the driver could expect to face charges.

Let's say- LOSER!!! Down here we have ways of dealing with such cock-knockers, maybe in Auckland we would not get away with it but down here redneck law rules!

We'd have to bitch at each other if it wasn't for dicks like this. Oh - yeah - we do anyway. It's all out there without even looking eh?
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Yet strangely, if he lived in Christchurch, rode a motorcycle and repeated the same nonsense down Bealey Ave, and recalled his exploits on this site in a largely incoherent thread about wheelies, he'd be a fucken hero??

    It's strange world.
I'm grateful that various laws (physical and otherwise) eventually stack up against such heroes.

    Hmmm.

Bealey Av eh... two lanes either side of the island, 7 sets of lights along a length or around a kilometre. Fairly high traffic flow, this time of year not lookin where thye're going.

180km/h you say? I think it could be done. I'm on my pushy today, but if there's time tonight i'll give it a damn fine nudge....

Always wanted to be on TV... (and a hero)...

Any stoppies involved along the way? Or just reach terminal speed and try to make the 90 degree corner at the end?

Try going the other way. The exit isn't so tight...
