there is (was?) a "brake light radar" for cars, that sense if you lift your foot suddenly from the throttle pedal. The assumption is that you are going to hit the brakes next, so it activates the brake lights in advance. If you don't actually put your foot on the brake, then the brake lights go off after a second or two - no harm done.
In theory, it's a good idea. In practice, there is little against it. In law, there has been nothing said about it.
