The road North from the Raglan Road to Waingaro is metal for most of it. If you want to avoid the metal head North from the garage at Whatawhata and then hang a leftie at Ngarawahia. The road out to Waingaro hot springs is nice. The rest of the road north is a joy even with a few bumpy bits. At Pukekawa as you approach the bridge there is a sweeping left hander going downhill with the worst bump. Chucked my hands right off the bars. Felt like I had run over a curb.

Thanks for the heads up. we did 40km metal on cape reinga tour and about the same on east cape tour so surely 1 km of gravel aint gonna be a problem. About SH22 - YEa. we will be taking it extra easy on that one. no bins needed. Thanks agiain brother.

There's about 18kms of gravel and it was really loose horrible stuff when I last went on it. The km or 2 before the gravel was really good. Right, left, right flicks; peg scraping smooth. The alternate route, the road out through Glen Massey from Ngaruawahia is highly recommended - really nice. That's the way I'll be going.
Heads up wasn't about SH22. That only goes as far as Pukekohe from the Drury motorway interchange. That roads in really good nick. The bit around Pukekawa is great except for that one bump. From memory it is just after you first see the bridge at Tuakau about a km away. A big left hander heading down from the top of the ridge. Went right across the North bound lane. We all missed seeing it and so was a bit of a shock.
