    Anglers of KB

I quite enjoy a spot of fly fishing, having done it a couple of times and consequently have become hooked, and with New Zealand being home of some of the best trout fishing in the world I thought it was about time that I go out and do it myself!

I'm planning to head down to Taupo with a couple of mates, pitch a tent for a couple days and hope to god we can catch something.
Only problem is, I don't have the faintest clue where to go in the Taupo area!
I've gathered some information and it seems likely we'll be trying our luck on the Tongariro, at the mouth and possibly further upstream, but we shall see.

I have been unable to find a decent amount of information, so I open my queries to KB in hopes that you lot can help me land a monster when I head down.

Do you have any good spots (that you care to share) as I only know general things to look for and estuaries that run into the lake.

Are there any preferred lures/fishing styles that are preferred for this time of year?

Where would be a good place to camp (preferably not populated as this is an escape from the city) that offers a range of fishing within a decent walking distance?

[Yes I am fairly novice when it comes to fly fishing, but you gotta start somewhere!]

Nymphing on the River forget about the mouth and lake. Wait until after June and its all on after a fresh rain . Get to the pool first in the morning . River Rats good place to stay. Careful parking too close to town the local are really bad at thieving, from cars

The locals are really GOOD at thieving from cars. They have a lot of practice.

Some time back I came across a Taupo fishereman in the formely blackball Hilton.

One thing led to another and he bought out his fly box. Every single fly excluding the dry's had some orange in tied in. Check out the local ties and some egg patterns.

I'm a bit of a solunar fan myself so if you have time try and fish when the moon is overhead.
