Since you're doing a long trip you be better off having a chat with a few people on here (or at least do a thread search round the touring threads) on stacking up on essential stuff just in case you have the odd incident.

Yeah just becareful of the cold weather. Sth Island is colder hence ice every morning.

From Christchurch to Dunedin will be a boring ride tho lol Trust me, I lived in CHCH for 5 years

If you can make it on Kiwibiker you can make it anywhere.

Probably cannae make it for a variety of reasons - but I will be sure to have a yarn to the intrepid travellers before they leave. Being a Southern Man from Dunnos and all, I might know stuff that is useful? or not?

As already alluded to, I think Auckland-living people might be shocked at just how bitingly cold it can be (A good cold, mind you - with pretty ice and snow).

Layers, layers, and more layers and *really* good winter gloves are the order of the day I suggest.

*slams right fist into chest above heart in a burst of southern patriotic fervour*

(Sigh. Longing for a proper, crisp, DRY winter, not this damp, miserable Auckland muck)

Cool so I have started thinking about how epic this trip will be since I have timed it for winter *crap lol*, I have started ,making a list of stuff I need, now ross I need your advice as to which are the best roads but not too treacherous ones, I hear the coastal routes are straight so inland will prob be the best bet? Can't wait till the bike is done in two weeks, I'm farking losing it mate, I'm hallucinating that I have my rg150 back lol. Anyone want to pillion me on a ride this saturday?

    I have that book...

NZ motorcycle atlas by Peter Mitchell. 'Tis good.Has route suggestions as well as maps. Happy to loan it to anyone desiring a look. Not that expensive either $20-30 if I remember correctly.

    Author's website: http://www.mcycle.co.nz/books.htm

There is a review on KB somewhere too - can't be faffed searching right now.

It all depends on my finances and my motorcycle and the weather, I might do north island round trip, down one side up the other or I might hit the south island. Enough people have told me bout the ice for me to get a little cautious. lol
