    3am server Nana-nap?

    Hihi,

What happens at ~3am every night? The server seems to have a wee lie down and frequently times out for a few minutes -- then back to normal.

    Just curious!

Well, if I think back to my server days, that would be about the time that the server reindexes all files on the server. If there are a lot of files, or it isn't a grunty server, this will take some time.

Of course the other possiblity is a backup saturating the link.

Ah ha! That makes sense. Annoyingly I was up then and saw what you meant. It certainly drops performance wise.

Believe me, a photo of me doing work at 0300 is not a pretty sight.

Nobody works at 3:00am. They only surf porn at that time. And I don't want to see a pic of WasPhantom with no pants on.

Curse of the oncall, I was working from 0030 until about 0400, then up again to get into work on time to talk to customers about it etc at 0630.
