Opinions on ZXR

Im still looking for my first bike and have settled on wanting a ZXR, CBR, or a FZR.

Ive read the buying guide and thats really helpful but i am wondering in there is anything in particular i should look for these models. What kind of kms should i be looking for? Not really wanting to spend over $4,000 so this seems to rule out alot of the CBR.

Or does anyone one of these in this price range? Rather buy of someone reliable.

I like the colour, it's the same as the later model Kawa (like my KRR), how ever it's been repainted at least twice (Black on Reg info, not a standard colour) so it's likely been dropped a few times.

I Liked my ZXR it went great, handled well and was pretty cheap to run, and I think the ZXR look a hell of a lot better than the CBR, handle better and have a better seat position. However I like my KRR much better, it's newer, lighter, handles about the same (better for me with the weight drop), and isn't much slower.

Personally if I was looking again for a 250 I'd probably be looking at something newer, mainly because at the age of a zxr things are starting to need looked at, even on a well maintained bike, and frankly with that bike I'd find it hard to believe it's been well maintained without proof (new paint, likely wound back, selling "for a mate").

Hard to start probably isn't an issue, there's a bit of a trick to most ZXRs it seems. If your going to look at it ask about the cam chain (should probably have been done by now), have a really good look for damage, check the peg brackets (they crack and are hard to replace). Probably ideal to get it checked out somewhere really.

If your a first time rider, and will be using it as your main transport, an inline twin bike (such as the GPX) is far more comfortably to ride. with there being omre tourque lower down. The FZR doesn't really go anywhere untill you hit about 10k.

Also I had a race in a straight line with an FZR and a 250 Bandit against my GPX, guess who came out ahead? And if you throw some BT39's on the the GPX, you scrap the pedals nicely.

Lets not forget too, its your first bike, so you will crash it/get crashed into, so maybe don't try and spend too much :P

Thanks guys. Looking for a weekend bike only, so reliability not that bigger deal. Thanks for pointing me towards Carfax helps alot. Will keep looking, seems like that might be abit dodgy. Already had a mate that was stung badly for by a bike that seemed cheap.
