How much is a 1986 GN250 worth

Hey

Looking into getting a bike. Think I might start with a GN250.

My mate is selling one that he bought last year. Done 57,000 kms. Been serviced regularly and generally in good nick.

He wants around 1800 for it. I think it is worth less than that due to the age and the amount of Kms. Is that correct? I also have to ship it to Akl from Wellly

its 24 years old. you can find more bike than that for 1800bux

Depends on a lot of things - tyres, chains & sprockets - are they all in good order? Preferably new. How does it look cosmetically? How does it run? Does it have a good service history (with proof)? When was the last time the steering head/wheel/swingarm bearings were checked/replaced? New WOF/Rego?

If it's had the money spent and is in good shape then in many ways $1800 ain't unreasonable, but you could possibly find something better. I know of a couple going for under $500 that don't need much work to be reliable runners - it's just a matter of knowing how to fix them up to keep it cheap, or knowing someone who can fix it for you!

Keep in mind that shipping a bike from Auckland to Wellington could be anywhere between $200-$400, money that could be spend on either a better bike, or better riding gear... or a pissup and a bbq!

The prices people ask for (and apparently get) for old 250s seem ridiculous to me.

Right now I'm trying to work out what a good 1990 Mazda Familia is worth after a Go Wellington bus decided to reverse into it. (He didn't see me.) It seems to be $2500 tops.

So, $1800 for a 22 year old commuter bike? When a comparable brand new bike is $5000-ish? Tell him he's dreaming!

I would offer $1000 for it.
GN250's are not exactly collectors ed.
Sick chopped or bobbed GN250's are good for about $3K

Ok so he paid to much for it and now wants to much from me. It is in pretty good nick and he says it runs well. But as everyone is saying 1.8k is too much. Plus I do have to ship it.

Also does the difference between the Jap and Chinese models translate to a dollar amount?

Really? I went for a GN because I thought they were quite cheap. I would have around 1.5-2k for the bike plus another 1k for all the other gear (pretty sure I can get cheaper stuff 2nd though).

What would you recommend? Ninja? CBR?
