New newbie (letard)

hi all,

Im about to purchase my first bike. a 1990 honda cbr250rr off a mate.
he moving to aus soon and grabbing it at mates rates

Always enjoyed the odd blat on a dirt bike or 2 when i got the chance and managed ta rangle a ride on a fxr150 then another cbr250 later on. I was already thinking of what bike ta get before i got the bike back on his street.

got a few questions

1) were would the best place for insurance be?

2) im looking at getting a full 2 peice leather suit. but the only water proof suit its completly black nd only got a small reflective srip on it. is there less darker over suits avaliable?

i dont fancy riding in the rain and dark in a black suit

3) i have seen carbon fiber brake and clutch leavers before on newer bikes
is there any avalible for the cbr? i cant find any on trade me. and mirrors if avalible. i want a bit of bling lol

Dunno, i ride in a leather jacket and jeans in the winter, and a tshirt and jeans in the summer

Dunno, try ebay.. but I reckon chrome levers would be cooler

welcome abord letard. you would be best to just ring around for your insurance and get some quotes, see who has the best deal's that suit you. if you want to stay warm and dry forget the leather's and get gortex gear or somthing of the sort, bloody good for winter. as for brake lever's you should'nt have trouble getting any for your bike, just ask a bike shop to order you some, or you could just source some through the internet

Do a search on the sight for insurance,shop around.As to gear , I had cordura but it started leaking after a year.Goretex is the best and probably won't leak.I use two piece leather with a rainproof oversuit if it going to rain.Just use a hi viz jacket over the lot if you want to be seen. enjoy riding and take it easy.

CBR250RR I had one meself - gorgeous machines and soo confidence inspiring (watch out for that).

Rather a girly question but what colour is it?

As for gear leather and cordura/gore-tex both have their respective good and not so good points.

When commuting - it's my cordura all the way...nice and warm with the liners in too (now that winter is here).

Leather when I'm riding proper. Just recently came off my bucket and seriously considering wearing the race suit when out 'riding' too...still might be overkill for commuting but I can tell you I'd be in a sorry state if I'd come off the bucket in my cordura!

never thought of a hi viz vest, the honda dealer in town said he only knows of new bikes having carbon leavers made for them and they will be super expensive, i dont care it looks UBER cool,

the bike was one of the black paint jobs, but the person befor my friend droped it and made there own fairing nd it looked so uggly, his dad fixes up old classics and the odd jap or 2 for a living nd he got a new white bule and red fairing and is currently repainting the rest 2 suit. he got the whole bike for about $1400, but had dun 70000ks. now its got a motor with about 30000 in it.

the makes some money and i get a great deal win win

Check out Golightly for insurance. They're underwitten by Vero and set up by the Honda Riders Club of New Zealand http://www.hondaridersclub.co.nz/

When you're getting quotes make sure the company offers extensions for track days and rider training conducted on a track. Most won't. Also check whether the policy covers your riding gear and bike accessories. Many don't and expect you to make a separate claim against your contents insurance. Golightly is good in all these respects. There's another big name (which escapes me right now) insurer for bikes which someone else will add I'm sure.

Lastly since you'll be riding a Honda you should consider joining the Honda Riders Club. Free roadside assistance is included in membership.

Edit: the insurance is called Honda Sure and it's through golightly. Check the benefits section on the HRC website
