    Tony.OK's VMCC Rnd1

    Well where do I start?
Sat night SH5 was closed due to slips.....fark!!Went to bed early not sure if I'd even be able to make it to Taupo on Sunday, woke up at 4am and straight onto the net to find that the road had been opened at 9:30 Sat night...phew!

Arrived at track and immediately realised this event is a tad bigger than my 1st race meet with PMCC Rnd3.......GULP!!
Loaded everything into what I thought was my pit shed only to be told I'm in the wrong shed......Buggar
So removed everything into right shed and went to sign on,came back to get bike ready to find that tyre warmers had kept tripping out the power boxes so tyres were still cold for scrub session, never mind got that sorted in the end well before qualifying.
    Qualifying-
going from last years times I thought I may be in for a decent time and position, which I would've as it turned out,BUT after only one flying lap off getting stuck behind a slow rider it was red flagged and we all came in to start again.
My bike was getting a little hot while waiting so I turned it off, then when we got the go ahead to go back out..........NOTHING! WTF? Flat battery, how did that happen?Still have charging system.......(note to self-buy a trickle charger for storing bike).
So with only a bad lap I wasn't sure I'd even be racing,so went to check and surprisingly my 1:43 was good enough for 16th,yay I think
Managed to borrow a batt and charger to get ready for race 1(thanks Nicki,Frenchy and Johan).
    Race 1-
16th on the grid ain't a good place to be as it turned out, right on the outside of the track.
Never mind I'm here..........ready for start, partially engage hyd clutch, foot on rear brake, hold a few revs, lights go out...........front wheel goes straight up in the air..............bastard clutch done it again..............passed by countless bikes before turn 1.....not to plan.
Put head down and go,passed a few bikes through lap 1 but not alot of traction front and rear but push anyway.Goal # 1 was to catch Mr Steele(ArcherWC),lap 2 and I spot my target and he's riding a bit loose overshooting a few corners, come up behind into the sweeper before the straight, better drive out and pass down the straight
Next target was Rob from GP Honda on Fitzgeralds last years bike, managed to get close but only 4 laps just wasn't enough and got pipped at the finish line by .072 to finish 12th with a best lap of 1:36.1,not so flash but after that start and only 4 laps not too bad

    Race 2-
Realising that there's some unaturally fast bikes out there (600's) I just wanted a better start and my goal was to break into the 1:35's.
Red lights go out and I don't hold any revs and get away much better but am on the outside of turn 1,lucky for me there's a bit of argy bargy with the inside group and I manage to run around the outside an pass a few before the next right hand kink and hold momentum around the outside of the left kink to be on the inside going into turn 3.
Don't know where I'm placed but really get stuck in and go for it,getting passed a couple more then seeing Jimmy pull off just before the A1 corner.
Next inline was Rob again and managed to get him somewhere(can't remember where
Then I was behind Brian(Teambwr47) on his brand new R6,one track day and he's bloody fast already, but as we went though the A1 corner heading to the sweeper he turned around to look and that was all I needed so past I went.
Next I caught upto Derek McAdam, now this was a challenge,he ha more grunt but I was faster through the corners and on the last lap I nearly ran into his back wheel twice, final straight and I'm close but he's eeking out a slight gap, hard on the brakes into the flip flop and I'm right there, final left onto pit straight and fuk I nearly hit him right up the arse which looses my drive and he gets me by .2 of a sec.
Finish in 7th with a new pb of 1:35.624,acheived set goal twice in that race as it happened..........Great
Went home wondering what would've happened if I'd qualified properly but still happy with the day.
Not sure how much more pace is to be had with a still stock engine, but will keep tweeking suspension.
You 600 boys are just freaksYou have my uttmost respect for those laptime boys.
Thanks to my lovely Wife for being there and supporting me,and to Nicksta and Frenchy for the pit shed and help

It really did look very unloved. Specially as it was next to the R1 that the whole crowd wanted to look at. Gixxer 4 ever

Top effort, Tony. Looking at the time sheets you'll definitely be up the front with a bit more luck in qualifying.

How did the SC0 rear fare? I found those mint on cold tracks on my 600, contrary to how it's supposed to work.

    Cheers guys n gals,
It wasn't too bad,I dropped the pressure in race 2 and put a touch more preload on and it was better, but it could've been the track was a bit warmer too.It hasn't shown to be tearing though.........yet.

Shame about the qualifying time man! On that track it all comes down to start aye it so hard to pass but you have to be happy about those results from that far back on the start!

Yes that would have been interesting. You looked very good in that second race, though with so many of your guys in that race it was hard to watch. One thing I like about running in Clubmans is that I get to watch both the F1 and F2 races, and with the race order yesterday it was perfect. I reckon you need a sponsor and though your CV is very short it would be very promising!!! Surely your local Honda dealer would help you out more!!!

    Cheers for the fasteners!

Have to agree with the others Tony. Great effort. The grids were huge and hungry so you did well given your experience. It looks like you will be adding something to the battles in F1 this year. Sorry for moving you on too bro but a good looking guy like you was needed in Nicksta's garage to balance up Roadracingoldfart's...erm..aa...more natural look.
