Team Nudsty's now "Lady Penelope" update

    Alrighties.....

I can do regular updates of this if anyone is interested. Skunk's building thread was a good read.

So far, I went to Sully60's and procured (stole/begged/borrowed/bought) a wheel and tail piece. Found the RG50 shock would not fit the existing swingarm so decided to leave the standard one in for now.

The wheel had the exact same wheel-bearing inner diameter as the RGV's so the wheel axle just slid through.
I have to make a sprocket and rear disc fit as it's a front rim off a late model Yamaha (being a 3.00x17).
Now all I need is a 2.15 x 17 front (TZR/FZR) wheel to match the rear.

Tomorrow night the frame and tank as well as Skunk's donor GL145 engine is off to Degrom's place so we can weld some engine mounts in.
Then we will weld some tank brackets and rear subframe to mount the new rear race seat. This race seat unit will be reshaped to something a little more MOTOGP and less '70s RG500 racer.

    More photo's to come...

PS - Yes, Skunk Control, the timber is still being used...
PPS - for those of you who say, use the standard wheels, they're lighter....well.....the RGV rear wheel less sprocket is 1.4kg's and the new Yamaha 3 spoke one is 1.3kgs.......

Your scales are wrong. Kidding... you should of cleaned the RGV ones first.

I think you need to give that bike to Ivan. When he's done with it you'd be able to keep up with at least a 600.

Even if they're the same weight, still worth it for being able to get better rubber for it.

    Alrighties....PART TWO.....

Tonight (well last night now as it's 12.11am Thurs Morn), I transported the 'cycle and bits over to Degrom, on the way stopping off to get the blown GL145 motor from Skunk and Mrs Control.
Thanks again so much you two

We spent ages and ages frigging around trying to get the engine straight in the frame, ie from the top, from the front and also get it as close as a line between the countershaft, the swingarm pivot and the rear axle.
We got the first 2 pretty damn good , the last,...well it's not too bad I guess.

Then, after grinding off the existing engine mounts, we made 2 new upper rear mounts and were tacked in. The mounts were made from an old ruler as you can see in the pic.
4mm plate steel was more than strong enough !!
Next was chopping down the rear fairing to make it look rather hip !!

So all in all a good night's work

Pic 1 - Note the wire keeping the top of the engine in place. No timber there, Mrs Skunk Control !!
Pic 2 - The alignment is getting there.
Pic 3 - Degrom the expert welder
Pic 4 - What it's going to look like in the future

(Part three to come - we will be doing the bottom engine mounts and making the top engine mount plus the rear subframe will be fabricated.)

Okay, I only said you were a good welder.
Your modelling skills need a little bit of work though......

    Part 3 update,

Bert (Degrom) and I had a sucessful day today in the workshop, getting the top and bottom engine mounts all sorted.
Next was building & bending the subframe to hold the back of the tank and the seat/rear fairing. This was measured and straightened, then tack-welded.
We still have a lot of cleaning up of the pieces, ie subframe overhangs etc.

Now that the seat and tank sit okay on the frame, it gives the rear of the bike the modern "high empty" look, which is what we're wanting to achieve. Just hoping it's not too high !!!

    Enjoy the pics.

In Part four, we'll be doing the associated bracketry to bolt down the tank and seat unit. Then it will be a complete going over of the frame to remove every of bits and pieces not required.
From then on, it will be collecting all of the necessary bolt-ons required.

PS We still need a TZR250 (1KT) Front Rim if anyone can help.
