This is the first year I've begun commuting full time on a bike and its starting to get a wee bit niply in the morning here in Wellywood. What do other people use? Balaclava or just neckwarmer? Problems under helmets? With earphones in?

One neckwarmer I bought was ok, just a $15 jobby from Leather Image
But wasn't enough when wearing a skull cap and sometimes not enough when a full face so I got an Oxford cotton balaclava to compliment it. That went ok and was better but mega foggage on the glasses and helmet visor.
Then I bought a leather neck warm face mask combo.. great thing. Breaths well, bloody warm. Slightly big for me so I'm taking it to a tailor soon to get it brought down around the nose.

Well I've tried them all and the Revit balaclava is the best.
Reasons? Well a neck warmer is hard to keep in place as they roll down when you pull the helmet on. The Revit balaclava is made of three materials. The skull part is very thin fabric that doesn't stretch or go out of shape and it keeps the cold air off the cheeks and neck. Then there is a wind proof hi-tech fabric for the nose/mouth and then a waterproof neck bib. This combination is just the bees knees. If I wanted anything more it would be a longer bib front that goes right down the sterum but with my new Motoline jacket, that are no longer gets cold.
Looks awesome. Where can I get me one of those in NZ?
Home made one a friend made years ago... best thing ever... made of polystuff neck warmer that extends all the way down around your chest and back...
perfect...![]()
I reckon go for the balaclava
the tube style neck warmers are difficult to get into position

I have one of these

I find it great ... warms the neck and the ears ... up over the nose ..
I find that I don't really like balaclavas much and that the neck warmer on its own is my preference though. Although I do wear a silk balaclava with it in winter ... mainly so it doesn't slip when putting the helmit on ...
I use a beanie that i have cot the top off, just pull it over my head, pop my helmet on then push the bits up underneath and inside my jacket.

I recommend the Icebreaker neck tube. The merino is warm even when it gets wet. I can't wear a balaclava because there isn't enough room in my helmet for me to be able to wear one.
