I think that because all of the top guys in any class are so good, that it often comes down to set up, especially in the dry. More so if your bike is having traction 'issues'. In the wet, your ability to maintain corner speed will negate acceleration that is massively amplified in the dry. Hence racers with either bike or setup problems can compensate if they have the 'feel' in the wet.
P , have you been at WMCC long ? Probably too far back , but a good example I always thought was the Dave and Nev Hiscock.
Dave was silky smooth both wet and dry , Nev, just as fast sometimes, but always on the raggered edge. hence his nickname 'Near-Miss-Nev'.
Remember we didn't have 'setup" just round black tyres! Gaz.
ps. sorry off topic there a bit folks.
14 years, but I was watching back then. I learnt to ride on sand, and it always reminded me of racing in the rain. I love it.
