That's a good idea. The pictures are genuinely horrendous.

Yup, but the story with them is interesting. I've seen a few instances of that on KB very recently. Only clickers will understand

That, my friend, is a sticky turd.
It's back..."Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

I don't know how you can stress out about moths, Mrs, when in this country you have the horror that is Wetas to contend with (brrrrr)

I knew there were summat bad about coming home - I just couldn't remember what it was, till I got started on reading an insect thread.

Ixion is right ... moths are just ugly butterflies.
And not usually as squishy, either. They crackle when ya step on them, rather than make ya slip out of yer jandals like wot butterflies do.

Although that is a pretty gross looking crysalis *bleagh*
Kinda glad its crawling up your wall, not mine

I had to menace off a sizeable spider t'other day. Me dad is even more frit of them than me: he de-spiders his whole house annually with some sorta anti-spider fumafication stuff. I had to go after it with the flyspray, and fuck knows where its gone, it ran off behind the computer, so I just sprayed killer-flit down amongst the wires and hoped for the best.

Me dad was distinctly relieved that I dealt with it, poor old bastard tried his best to not look grateful.

I just hope its not lurking down there by my feet right now, sharpening its fangs ...
No I am not a Pom - I just sound like one ...

There's some sort of parasite that lives in dirty rivers in SE Asia that can lay eggs in the blood stream... Bit of a nasty thing really.
However, some guy had this 'bug' infiltrate his brain where it laid eggs outside the blood stream - as a result the spawn couldn't escape and pressure started rising in his skull. Slowly but surely he lost his ability to speak secondary languages - then his mother tongue - and finally he was commited to hospital as having a brain tumor.
In the end the doctors removed the eggs and spawn and he recovered fully without any brain damage or anything... There are nasty things out there

Well seems you were right. But seems that squishing them is not to be contemplated. Look what I found.

"The other reason not to squish them is they are quite heavily preyed upon by a small parasitic fly. This fly lays its eggs on the edge of the previous nights feeding site, so when the caterpillar resumes feeding the following night it swallows them. The eggs hatch inside the caterpillar and eat it from the inside out, starting with the non essential parts first. "

Fancy putting your nerd hat on and finding out where I can lay hands on some of these parasitic flies?

If mothra is going to drop down and eat my brains, I want a few of these little suckers to use in my defense.

    It's not a fly - it's a worm.

The story can be found here: http://www.ualberta.ca/~publicas/folio/41/09/08.html

Don't worry - no nasty images, but the story is probably still a bit cringe inducing.

Judging by the general appearance (physique/proportions) I would suggest a certain KB'r has escaped from the his South Island exile and is hding out in your "neck of the woods"

    Noice

Found out something else too today, apparently the female bagmoth has NO WINGS! She simply sticks her arse out of the cocoon waiting to be taken advantage of.

Yay, I am happy, one half of the mothra gene pool can not fly! The male when he eventually grows the balls/wings to leave the cocoon, is only concerned in finding the closest dirty girl mothra he can, so he can have his wicked way with her, then it is over rover for him.

I may leave the habitat alone now. Though I dont much like the thought of them dropping down at any given time to be fair...LOL
