A quick ride report for those interested with http://www.phillipislandridedays.com.au There is a vid clip of a lap on the site as well.
I decided to hire a bike and gear off these guys (as I dont have anything yet) to check out the circuit, so that gets you a gsx-r600 in standard form with race glass and Dunlop Qualifiers.. It costs just over $500 AUD for everything - the track alone with yre own bike is $199.
After registration and breifing checked out the gixer and found it to be set up quite soft, managed to adjust the front preload but they didnt want to touch the rear shock at all. The setup is most suited to people who have not done much track riding, so it was a bit of a comprimise but you could get away with a bit due to the smoothness of the track. Organanisation was good running four classes for 20min sessions, which gives you around 10 laps.
Basically a lap on the little gsxr goes like this - down the straight past the start/finish line into 6th going under the bridge, then down the hill slowing into 4th gear for T1 back on the gas approaching the double apex T2 and down into 3rd for the turn, accelerating out to the RHS of the track shifting to 4th and 5th around the left hander and down to the hairpin T4 shifting into second (first gear was to short and slowed you down to much on the gsxr) hold second down the RH bend to the LH T6 trying to keep the 600 leaning to far by holding it up with my knee due to the soft setup and gassing it down the back esses (lost the front here once due to a worn front tyre - which they changed!!) up into fourth approaching lukey heights, then over the LH hill in thurd braking into 2nd again for the Rh'er(its quite a drop here) and a short shift to 3rd around the LH'er accelerating to the outside of the track to forth setting up drive for T12 and tuck in for the ride down the straight.
Managed to get in 3 sessions before the lite rain came in, then did a fourth in the wet which I did about 4 laps and called it a day. It was great to ride the circuit it has a fantastic setting and surface, be even better on your own bike with a decent setup and tyres!![]()
