    Organ donor?

Blood donation thing got me thinking, who here is an organ donor on their licence?

Kinda pisses me off when people aren't by choice, surely if they needed something in an emergency they would take it.

And what really pisses me off is that people can say they want to be a donor and family can overturn that

I started the last Organ Donation thread, I guess it's your turn this time HRT!

Yep, I'm a donor. Yeah, I think it should be an opt-out system, not an opt-in system.
I mean, you should have to state you don't want to give an organ.

It's interesting that the medical school has too many donations of bodies for the student doctors to work on, and not enough room to store them. Something like 600 people offered their bodies after they died last year, but they only have room for 80 or something at the medical school.

    yip im a donor.
i also agree that its wrong that my wish to donate can be changed by family.
I have told the missus lotsa times that if the unfortunate happens, let em cut me up. Better off to save as many others i can.
cause i won't be using any thing any more..

I'm an organ donor - and I agree with all your statements. As well, I reckon if you have "donor" ticked on your licence, you should get priority if you ever need an organ. Look after those that look after each other I reckon ....

I searched for "donor" but nothing came up. Figured searching for "organ" might not turn up the desired results

I heard that about the bodies. Also heard the Chch bodies end up in Dunedin and the Dunedin ones go up for the Chch students? Cant confirm that one.

Cant remember the exact numbers on organ donation but from memory its a stupidly small number used each year.

I'm giving it all away when I'm dead.

And my family have been informed that I will personally HAUNT any bastard who tries to block my wishes, and upon their demise, drag their eternally damned soul screaming with me all the way to the 7th level of the darkest of all hells!

Good point Planna, even if it just gave incentive for other people to be donors

I'm a donor...not sure how much of my leftovers will be of much use though

shitty genes a lifetime of preventative meds and. well, just living means my bits might not be of much interest to them but if anyone wants pieces of me when I'm dead they can go for gold.

I put it on my licence and I told my family that I had done.
But I'm old, shortsighted, fat and I smoke.

Can't imagine any of my organs will be worth harvesting anyway; Maybe my liver, I suppose, 'cos I don't drink much.

But if they find a use for them ... fine with me.

I don't know much about the organ donation system, so apologies if the following are stupid questions:

Can non-drivers (i.e people without licences) be donors? Where would that be recorded?
Is it only as the result of road accidents that organs are used?

'tis worth a thought - good point! If the powers that be ever think up a scheme as genius as mine, I have complete faith they will think of things like that too ...... so maybe non-donors who are otherwise eligible to donate go right down the ranks. I'm sure someone will find out it's against the bill or rights or something though ..... It's just too hard. Let's just all donate if we can!

    I'm a donor.
I work on the theory that if I'm not around to use them, someone else might as well!
