Hi all, yeah im a donor and give blood regularly. ya damn straight id take them if i ever needed them, and if i was to have an accident and not make it thru (knock on wood, salt over the shoulder, break a mirror...oh wait, not that last one) , its not like im gunna need my organs, so they may as well be put to good use saving the life of someone who still has a chance.

I'm a donor. I'd rather have other people harvest what's good than let it go to waste. because well.. in a way... I'd live on with a little piece of me inside everyone though I don't know what my family and friends would say to having my organs harvested! lol.

Totally disagree here, next the beauracrats, would downgrade you from receiving lifesaving treatment because you had tooooo.... many speeding infringements.

After all it gives the bean counters another method of cutting back on operations, which leads to costs savings, so they get more bonuses. But isn't the health dollar thru taxation meant to be spent not saved.

Pretty loose sort of thinking , but starting to lose faith in the system.

I agree there is always scope for the system (any system be it government bureaucrats or private insurance companies) to screw us over. Perhaps getting too complicated is not a great idea - as I said, let's just all donate if we can!

I lost faith in the public system years ago - now I have gold plated private health insurance and get wine with my dinner in hospital

    mmm

My logic is that if they actually think that any of my organs are still serviceible - they can have them!!!

I have already told the family this as well and they agree to let them take what they can....

Same here and the same thing about being a mad cow (or my case a bull). Funny thing is the week befor the cut off date i was giving blood. go figure. and it's not like they didn't know, they were just happy to get as much blood as they could.
I may be slow at getting things but..... no wait I'm just slow.

What this gorgeous creature above said

My thinking: if enough of us are willing to give, it might just put a damper on the organ black market, which is one of the most atrocious concept the disturbed human psyche ever came up with (IMHO).

I used to be a blood donor until they decided they didn't want my blood any more. I'm also registered as an organ donor.

The unfortunate thing is that most of us won't get the chance to donate our organs - you have to die in hospital under very controlled conditions so your organs can be kept fresh and 'alive' until they are needed. This usually only happens after you've been in a major accident of some kind and you're declared brain dead in hospital while still on life support.

And of course your organs are no use if you've died of a slow, degenerative disease.

So when you think about it, only a tiny fraction of those registered as donors will actually get the opportunity to donate. I have spoken with my nearest and dearest, and hope that they will allow my organs to be donated if I get the chance to save someone else.

By the way, I can't post photos as my organs are currently in use. However I can assure you that they are all pink and plump and pumping!
There is no such thing as bad weather; only inappropriate clothing!
