    Building a gokart! One hopes.

Heya all, No real structure to this, other than the childhood dreams becoming possible due to having a job.

After all the rambling and thoughts, I'll just want to know how much it'd cost to chop crap up and move crap around in order to fit a not two banger 100cc engine on it. You could skip it all by supplying links that I can't find, or put me off by saying it'll cost alot of time and dorrah. Either way, will help.

I want. A cheapish gokart frame (Thinking sub 600$) of the real gokart frame kind, not some backyard knockup for the hellokitty beach-island adventure. Sorta thing.
Now, I don't want a rotax engine or a KT100 on it, because i'd much rather the scream or brum brum of a rev-limited 250 or something. And it wont need maintenance every 20 hours.

Now, Not having a frame to measure up on, i'm going to assume an engine just can't be soldered onto the frame. Moving the back cog left or right on the axle is easy enough, but i'm sure the frame wont accommodate a fat engine on it.

Seeing all the jobs on youtube with gixxer thou' engines, I realised an ass-arrangement would be far wiser for traction and keeping the weight centered (As opposed to going around a left hander and the kart flipping over from the big lump on one side). And that majority had the 'swingarm' lengthened (What's the back of a chassy called? The back of the chassy ) to fit the damn engine. Granted it wont be a thousand, which will just light up the rubber in any gear on more than 1% throttle thrown at it, it'll still be a bigger engine.
Can I just hang the thing over the ass if it needs fabrication? I'd imagine the chain would have to be pretty damn short for that.

    What else, what else.
    Ah.
    Gear changing.
I guess I could make it fun and screw a clutch lever onto the wheel or something, but possibly more complicated than setting up a VERY hard clutch pedal. But I like levers. Because they lever stuff.
The 'box. Would I be able to smack on a giantly long stick straight from the engine? Dependant on where it was, of course. Can't think of a reason as to why it'd be a problem.

    Hmmmm.
Radiator would be relocated onto the side, with a big fat piece of plastic directing air into it.
    Hmmm.
    Anyway, I need food.
If I forgot soemthing, it'd probably be while i'm eating.

Always wanted a gokart, but only driven one a few times because centrifugal 1hp karts aren't worth the 15$ per 15 minute session. I'd rather invest 1000% more into owning one.

How'd I type so much. Honestly. Don't blame you if you don't read it all
Cheers beforehand, and much replies will be had to hopeful comments, suggestions of ANY KIND.

Check out this months issue of "The Shed" magazine.
They have an article on building a basic go-kart.

Can be found in super markets etc. Good Kiwi publication with practical bloke stuff in it. I like the article on making knives out of car coil springs.

    Hmmmm.
If I had a TIG welder and some piping!
Unfortunately my father lives down in nelson, and I know of noone else that does fabrication. But I COULD do with a TIG welder *Poignant thoughts*.
Will have a look for that magazine at work tomorrey, coil blades do look the serious business!
