I've seen it done with an angle grinder

But much easier and a better result is achieved with the groover.

100 dollar notes, about 6 of them will turn a crap set of shagged slicks into a shiny set of road tires.

These guys do one http://www.patchrubber.co.nz/catalogue.htm but its a bit spendy at $313.
I was thinking about making one using a butane gas torch for heat, bit like a gas soldering iron, and screwing a cutter blade ($41) that they sell. (My son races a car at the local speedway, being able to groove the tyres would be an advantage)
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
those cheap ass bitches can do anything with ductape.

Someone on tard me was selling one.
Beware grooving worn out slicks. If the wear dots have gone its the same as grooving a worn out road tyre --pretty stupid

What about one of them lino cutting tools you used in art classes at primary school?

They even had different cutters for different shape grooves.

The groover thet Kiwifruit recomends is available from Transport Wholesale Ltd (TWL) aprox $160. Works really well, about 20 min to cut a slick. Not everybody wants to cut rooted tyres, there are benifits like they can heat up faster , I use them on my bucket
