    Remember the space shuttle and ISS is only 500km away. The sun is 150 million kilometres away. Basically if you put the earth up next to the sun it would be about the same size as the dot of the space shuttle in that photo.

    OMG someone who can explain astronomical phenomena in plain English - thanks heaps

    Now I can explain it to my 13 year old - who was the one that raised the question in the first place (hadn't even occurred to me until he did - oh the shame)
