i think for you know its not the best idea to buy a fix it project....im sure your just like me n when i started i just wanted to ride.....didnt wana have to fix anythin but l8er on get your self a project bike.....
if you can get an extra $500 and if he agrees to ship it up then i think that would be your best option....its up to you and what you wana do.

I think I am gonna have to agree with Ehab if you haven't got the time, money or mechanical knowledge in restoring/rebuilding a bike then it might be safe to just buy a mechanically sound bike rather than wasting time and money trying to get it going. It can be a hassle .....the CBR at 38500km is just moderate k's Ehab these babyblades will ride up to 60,000km provided its maintained properly.

But if money aint the issue then the VTR looks good and its got couple of fancy add-ons. You have to be clearer about the k's and again why the engine was replaced. Also if you do buy it try to get receipts from the bike shop who did it. Does not nice and will make Ross with another black VTR in the club.

so have arranged to view the dark bule spada on saturday.guy lives in mission bay, and is free for me to view at bout 4. who all can come?

got a reply from one of the kb'er down in nelson. says teh vtr's in good nick. and priced pretty well. gonna see if the owner's keen to pay to ship it up, otherwise, will have to reconsider it (am told it's about 400 to ship it up).spada owner's hoping to get about 3-3.5 and won't take a buy now offer unless it's over 3.5 (which is fine for me! means it's more than likely still gonna be up there on sat). after viewing, will decide on what my cap will be for bidding on it. (hehe, i mean i won't decide, i'll get you guys to do that for me)

It'd be about $400 for someone to give you a lift on the bitch-pad down there and ride it back. :P

CBR mc19 riding up to 60,000kms?? I've heard of ones going round the clock and still riding hard!!!

    Though I wouldn't pay $3,800 for one that's done 38,500ks :P

question, is napier a further ride away than new plymouth?

hey also, i finally managed to convince my dad that it's a good thing to get a bike. such a strange discussion, becoz for once he was basing his side all on random "i'm right becoz i say so" facts. haha, he said bikes are too dangerous, expensive, impractical (becoz of rain), and a waste of money that could be put to better use.... haha god i love the fact that everything he mentioned was completely off. (dangerous, to an extent, but still, it can be negligable in most cases if u're sharp.. right?). so he agreed, that it may be ok for a bike. i'm not expecting any funding tho - will try the safety card again tho... but the ok makes it easier!
don't buy a project for your first bike

    napier sounds like fun

bikes are more practical than cars unless you need to carry alot of luggage/passengers
rain is no issue unless you're a wimp
it's significantly cheaper to buy and run
it's significantly cheaper to buy and "do up" as you would a shitbox car
far from a waste of money - they pay for themselves in the petrol money you save

less safe than a car - sure you don't need to be cut out of a crushed steel cage, but in low speed accidents you're largely unprotected

ZZR might not be a project is why i suggested it, it runs, and has only done 26,000k's, inspection would tell all, you can tell from the answers that the owner isnt mechanical.

I reckon the spada is overpriced, parts arent easy to come by i think, which means anything wrong will cost... the vtr is good. Fwiw, when i had my gsxr moved from chch it cost $430, if i used a moving company it would have been well cheaper.

I'll come have a look at the spada

sweet. so meet u at uni on sat, and we'll make our way to see the spada. have contacted the owner down in nelson, and asked if he'd organise shipping and cover the cost if i pay him 4000. waiting for a reply, or call back from him. will update.

the reply, post inspection, regarding the vtr down there, that i recerived was as follows

    "Hi Jay,
I got hold of Steve who is selling this bike and went around to take a look at it this afternoon. As you know it has had a new engine and Steve says it has done about 3000km on the new one. The bike looks and sounds very good and overall the bike is very tidy so as long as the price is right I'd think it is a good buy.
Steve also said he has a guy in Chch who wants to view the bike and Stev is planning on taking the bike down to see him in the next day or two so if you are going to make him an offer I would do it now rather than later in the week.
Check out biketrans.co.nz for a shipping price, also motorcyclemovers.co.nz. I have used both these outfits and they are both as good as you will get for your money. I think the last bike I bought from Auckland cost me about $400 to get it delivered but that's cheaper than a day off work and an airfare.
    Good luck & cheers, Simon."

hehe... this sounds really positive! will wait and see what owner says. i'll check these 2 bike transport companies now for a quick quote. anyone know of any others?
