most of the stuff can be done on your own. Tyres I think it will last you for a while more like a full set may last you 2 to 3 years.

I think it's good to use STATE. Insure your bike "slightly" higher just in case.
Thier excess is $700 for learner+under 25 yrs old, but I only pay $10 a month.
People do have other preference of insurance company, so call all of them up and get Quote.

Yeah, it always pays to insure the bike for a bit more than it is worth - it means that if you do do any modifications to it in the next year or so which will increase the value of the bike, you will not be out of pocket!

I'm 20 (cnt w8 for my 21!) and i get few missed calls, and then screams at the end of the day from my mum, because she rings and i never answer when im on the bike (duh) and she thinks that i crashed. She does it all the time even tho i moved out awhile ago.

oh the hilarity if they've bought one for youi've decided tht to get the bike into the house, i'm gonna keep it at kyle's till the 7th of august. that's my 21st birthday! haha, so will show it to my parents then, and say "look, most parents buy their kid a car for their 21st, i decided to save you the trouble - being the considerate son i am - and buy it for myself, on your behalf! .... surprise! " may not go down too well, but on the other hand, i did work full out to afford it, so they can't argue! (plus i'm now bck to paying the phone and gas bills for the house
reg cost more due to acc levy, wof cost less due to being a 5 minute check without any tools
insurance = ~$42/month (total guess, so set $500 premium)
fuel, excluding big rides = ~$90/month (you'll get atleast 20km to the litre)
wof/6months=$25= ~$ 6/month
rego/6months=$130(?)= ~$ 22/month (it just went up, and i pay for 12 months)
maintenance, commute only= ~60/month (provided you do it yourself, that is still a high estimate. most newbies spend zero on maintenance for 6-12 months. big difference between what you *should* do in theory and what you actually do in practice, and what you can realistically get away with)
tyres, biannual, commute only = $350 (front and back) = ~$15/month
all maths done in head without care for accuracy
total cost/month = ~$235 PLUS costs incurred while doing coro loops, but they technically shouldn't count when we compare to a car
so compare that to a car, with $100 or more a week on gas and whatever the hideous rate on parking is where you work, repairs required for a $3500 car, billion bucks per tyre, and some stupidly high insurance premium bacause car drivers have a knack for bumping things with bumpers, and then mum insists you have the slight paint scuff on the plastic bumper touched up "before it rusts", and the assessor quotes $360 for a job the panelbeater told you would cost $60
start getting quotes for insurance, full comprehensive cover too! check it's agreed value etc etc, and what their policy is on others riding your bike etc etc
some good ways to keep costs down are to insure it with the same ppl who do youre house etc etc, and/or my trick of insuring under my dad's name with me as a named rider. (he's got his full licence, is over 25, and no bike claims for atleast 20 years - i'm the same, but under 25 and had to be insured for my restricted etc)
can't wait for my 25th birthday when the insurance companies send me a box of driving/riding skill. all of a sudden i'll be much less likely to crash

I went around the corner to see one of my mates, couple of hours later fireserivce arrives. We are both like ugh yeah something exciting to look at, but wait why are they by my mum's car. As it turns up there must have been some electrical issue and the electrical system (battery etc) lighted up and one of the neighbours saw the smoke so she call fireservice.
All plastics etc under the bonnet melted lol. Hopefully insurance will cover it, otherwise bye bye zeal.
Moral of the story, if you are old enough get ur bike on ur name, with ur insurance so when something happens u know it is not causing other ppls headache. Thats what i do anyway

this is the bikini frame i'm looking for. the guys at just fairings said the only one they have that'll fit a vtr250 is the ducati monster's bikini fairing. hard to imagine how it'd look, but if some1 checks it up, let me know how similar it wold be to this one, or if it'd look good at all....

also, andrew, am moving teh pickup date of bike to the friday after this. 2 reasons, still have a monthly pass on bus (and so being a student, i wanna get what i can for it), and secondly, i'm gonna slow down teh last payment by a week, so that i'm sure to have enough for the bills this month. am a bit worried that i won't afford it.. so wanted to take the cautious route, and hang back a bit (in case). - plus it saves me forcing kyle to hide it for a week.... haha.
