I'm highly jealous!! I would love to do something like this, very nice bike![]()
it's a race flat slide carb.
they look like this:

i have a new one for my 540 - all jetted up and in it's box waiting.
it's just the std motor has been so reliable - i've been loathe to change it...

the FCR flows more and is easier to tune.
when you port the head, run bigger valves and more aggressive cams, the 34 CV carb becomes a big bottleneck. ARe you running the SR400 CV carb?
i am using the std ignition with no problems
surely the coils are pretty generic?
the ones i have look pretty standard.

Rear fender, tail light, indicators, headlight bucket and front indicators on. I need to make a new bracket for the speedo, key and warning lights, maybe this weekend.
It's raining in Nelson today so I got pleanty of quality time in the shed. Put the motor back in the frame and started plumbing it up.![]()

Yeah thanks, it comes up good with a lot of elbow grease and lots of time.
With all this rain we've been having I should have finished it a month ago. Put the final few touches on the bike today, chain, oil, petrol that kind of thing. Took a few kicks to get her started but that is probably because I forgot about the prime position on the fuel tap - it seems that the vaccum pump thing on the fuel tap doesn;t work properly too so I'll need to get a petcock kit I guess. The plug was a bit sooty from running the bike on the supertrapp with all the baffles in for the recert so I cleaned that up too. Before I got it the previous owner had been running it without an exhaust and it ran well so he may have altered the needle height to compensate for the lack of back pressure. I got a Harley muffler off something like a sportster so it is good for half of a 1200cc bike. It is very quiet (a bit too quiet for my liking) so I may need to adjust the fuel mixture to get it to run right.
Anyway, took her up the road for a blast and once the oil had circulated enough to let the clutch plates seperate she was a joy to ride.
Geeze I wish I'd registered it now - we've got a motorbike show here tomorrow and I can't even ride it there bugger it!
I'll edit the movie tomorrow hopefully and bang it up on youtube but in the mean time here are a couple of tasters...

Hi!
here in aus there are some people selling a couple of sr400's that will need a resto.. i was wondering how hard it was to get parts for them and any decent places you stumbled upon in your travels.. the bike im looking at will need a top end rebuild and even trying to find a piston and rings set looks tricky..
im tempted to just buy one of the bikes someone has done up or start looking at importing one from NZ either an sr400 or sr500..
any thoughts? LOVE THE RESTO by the way! it is gorgeous!
hey.
there are a couple of places in sydney that will be very useful for you.
adrian at vanem (www.vanem.com.au) or taka at deus (www.deus.com.au)
