merv - one of the reasons TG from telecom and her like get paid so much is because this is what they could demand, if not more, on the international market. If we want the best running our businesses over here, we need them to be paid accordingly. And she is good at her job, no question about it.

Its a conspiracy though with the rich guys (CEOs and Boards and the like) saying that's the market rate, but its such an old boys network thing it is self fulfilling for them. The general Joe is powerless against it and when it comes time for workers pay rounds they baulk at even thinking of something like a 1 - 3% payrise, while they have already given themselves 20 - 30% or more. That's why I mentioned TG - her salary bumped up by about 1 mill last time round. How do you think the lines contractors fared? Oh no, they were expected to lower their costs or lose the contract I bet. That's how capitalism works here these days in private enterprise.
My initial comment basically was mainly about how I see no difference between tax money and prices charged by private businesses - either way we the customer pay, plain and simple. Private businesses don't print their own money they get it from us. So when I hear gripes about spending on public servants etc I think its ridiculous if people think is OK for private businesses to do it e.g. lavish holidays on the company and all that sort of thing. If its alright for one its alright for the other, so I have no particular worry about Judy and her pay.

Well with that massive increase in her wages....
Judy should go out and buy her own motorbike instead of sitting on the back of her husband's Harley Davidson. She already has all the bike gear to wear.
But no I personally don't think that she is worth all that money..... heck since the increase, she has hardly been on the screen. Some one has been filling in for her.... Look its Monday today and where is she.... off on holiday... guess she won't be on tomorrow either .... why cos its another public holiday... so she will work I guess this week Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for $15,000 now that aint bad for 3 hours work. Oh ok she does a few hours behind the scene to make sure that she pronouces the words correctly.

I wasn't refering to Judy Baily in my post, I thought that was clear enough. And as far as being an old chestnut, who are you, or all of us for that matter, to know anything about who's being headhunted. That sort of information is not public knowledge. And it also doesn't only apply to those who are headhunted, but to those who could easily up and leave NZ for greener (richer) pastures. You get someone with their skillset, who could say earn including bonuses/stock etc multi-millions per year, and offer them $500,000 to work here! I know where I would be going. And thats not called unpatriotic, thats called being payed the best you can for what you do.
