    Question Complaints dept.

How do you take issue with something without being labeled a "Whinger"? It seems more and more there are people who are taking issues and making mountains out of trivial things, but what if you have either a genuine concern or are seeking clarification on an issue? What would be the 'right' way to go about getting the answer/s you want without risking the ire of whoever wants to label you a whinger?

People are encouraged to voice their opinions (hence KB) and it seems then they feel they have the right to shit on other peoples opinions or questions with a holier than thou attitude. Is it just NZ (the great tall poppy syndrome) or is it standard these days?

Incidentally, no, this is not a whinge - just a couple of questions...

IF I wanna have a whinge (or just pose questions) I'll just fricken do it..be damned what a bunch of people who don't know me, the situation or well anything (half the time people just spout shit anyway) think of me for it.

Fark if I was that sensitive I don't think I could get out of bed every morning - AND I definitely couldn't work where I do if I gave two shits about what others think of me.

    I can attest to that.

You're on the right track already. Approach the issue constructively outlining your concerns. Deal in facts, not inferences and show you're keen to work towards a solution. The moment the recipient feels threatened, that's when you'll get a negative reaction. Above all else, keep your cool and stay pleasant. I'm assuming that it's a fairly important issue you're talking about. Nothing like a good old non-constructive constructive whinge if it's not, but don't expect to get a positive result!

The art of negotiation (because that's what it is) has had heaps written about it.

The ability to post whatever one thinks or likes on the Internet often runs contrary to normally accepted human decency.

I sometimes write stuff, re-read it, then find that just writing it (without posting it) is enough to get it off my chest / out of my system.
If it's trivial, let it go. If you think that saying summat about it might make a difference, go for it.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

If I have a genuine reason to bitch and winge I think it's best to go to the source of the problem, but if I just feel like having a general moan then who ever is nearest at the time will do.
Depends how strongly I feel about it, if my moaning will make a difference then moan to the right people and try and get the problem resolved so I don't end up moaning about the same thing in a weeks time.
It's like the way the country runs, if you have a problem with it and know how things can be improved, then get off your arse and do something about it instead of bitching about it to people who don't give a shit and can't do anything about it! Rant over!

That has been covered - send a PM to a mod, senior mod or an admin. [p/t]

I'd agree with NumberOne - don't worry about the label. If you have concerns speak up!

    Not just NZ I'm afraid.
People everywhere (in the western world at least) seem to have developed an attitude of wanting to have answers to everything NOW! And they don't just accept it if they don't get the answer THEY want, nope they get pissy and obnoxious about it too. And the same goes when someone else's opinion doesn't fit in with their universal truth.

I guess it really depends on how much you really give a crap about what people think about you.

I find that people who don't know me very well will think I'm whinging no matter how cleverly/diplomatically I put a complaint through to them. It is just a way for them to dismiss an annoying truth telling.

Someone who has known me a little longer and perhaps has a better idea of my legitimacy as an open minded person who just tries to think outside the square, will be more enclined to look at my opinion and take it on board or at least consider it with an open mind in turn.

So, it is all arbitrary really...If you don't know the people very well, tread carefully and apply as much diplomacy as humanly possible. It will take time, but if you have a good point, you will eventually find someone who is prepared to see eye-to-eye with you.

This is a graphic example of why everyone should be allowed to pack heat.

This really hasn't got a lot, if anything to do with KB. Sure, there are people on KB who have issues and moan about everything it seems but this is not about them. It's also not about me having any particular iissues with anything or anyone. I personally don't give a shit if anyone calls me whatever they like, it's not like I haven't been called names before!

I suppose it's really a bandwagon thing - one person throws a label (whinger)at *someone* and there are many others who are willing to judge based on that label (whinger)

No AJ - you haven't done anything... yet. I'll let you know
