Sounds great ... I know the next couple of days are the fun before the hurt so really make the most of them.
OK we spent the day doing the touristy thing yesterday - although not to sure how many people cruise bikeshops between tours!
We started the morning doing a habour cruise which was amazing - the largest port in the world (tonnage wise) and at any one time they have an average of 800 ships. There must be a fair few bikes in those ships I would say.
We then had a couple of hours between our next tour so we headed off to bike shops. We are based in Little India which I am not sure if it is representative of bike shops but it was an adventure.
The strange thing for me is the segmentation of the shops, they don't seem to be one stop shops rather itsy bittsy shops. So we stopped at a shop that sold bikes, helmets and top boxes but nothing else. Then at a shop that sold accessories and another that sold spare parts, they just don't seem to have any shops that sell everything under one roof.
As as for the whole browsing and trying things out, that doesn't happen either. Most things are in cabinets or behind the counter. I did find this lovely shoei helmet and really loved it. So I asked if I can try it on, they wanted me to agree to the price and I was like why? to which he replied that i had to buy it to try it on. I said no way, even though it was my size it may not fit or feel good and I am not buying a helmet without wearing it first! The reason was that if people try it on it is second hand and people wont buy it as a new helmet! Needless to say I walked out the door.
We did stumble across another really nice shop (it had aircon) and some very cheap leather jackets, just a shame I don't know what size I will be else I would have been rather tempted. They also had the really nice helmet and would let me try it on without buying it and all I can say is cant wait to get back to NZ to order one! It was lovvvely.
While i think it is law here to wear a helmet it doesn't seem to need to be a full face one. Which seems to be conducive to things like chatting as you ride / stop at lights or smoking as you ride. It seems that yes you can ride a haybausa while smoking.
Not to sure what they roads are made out of, they are black but don't bleed in the sun and the surface is lovely. Also we haven't seen any black from tire rubber on them, and with the way they drive here emergancy breaking is not uncommon! (this was a contribution from wannabiker, like i notice the road surface!)
After we did the bike shops we did an evening tour to Sentosa Island which is the premier tourist destination in Singapore. Had a good night and came back and slept like a baby! Today is a really busy day, three tours to pack in, we are on the go from 8.30 and will be back about 11 tonight (3am nz time) so will give you a further update tomorrow.
PS yes that is wannabiker, he just shaved his head....
Wow... I'm still shocked by the smoking whilst riding a 'Busa
Sounds like you're having a full on but good time over thereHope the other tours go well!

Now that is one cool update ... sounds interesting people now allowed to try on a helmit and having to pay otherwise its second hand ... mad!! ... Mind you the insurance company here rang a bike shop to find out how much for a second hand helmit when the Grubby one had his off cos they did;t want to pay the $600 for a new one ....
Tours sound like fun ... hope you got some good pics for us to look at on your return .... PS we would recognise that head anywhere!! besides being the only white one in the shot!!
Hey girlfriend
By the sounds of things you are having a great time - please ensure that you are well looked after post surgery, take care and hope to catch up with you soon.
Cheers

so i think you will be stunning and yah boo sucks to you to all who do not agree![]()
Why thank you, and I look forward to proving you right.
Not much bike wise to report today, we spent the entire day in tours and it is now 11pm (3am nz) and I am rather tired. We did see a ducati shop a couple of blocks away from the hotel and I know wannerbiker is rather hoping to get there in the few hours on Monday morning we have left in Singapore. The really interesting thing was that they also sold ducati pushbikes - never knew they made them and prehaps the only ducati i would be able to fit on.....
In the only in Asia bike riding category todays winner is the pillion that was reading a map while they were travelling at 90km down a 4 lane motorway. The worst part was he had the map around the side to show the driver were to go..... Sorry too late to get a photo but trust me it was a sight to see!
Anyway off to bed for me now, tomorrow is the begining of the big adventure as I am off to KL. Although not meeting the surgeon till tues morning so hopefully will have some Malaysan bike related news for you all tomorrow.
0123 am local time. Hi all that are following this thread, I am temporarily taking over as sweetP has just come from her first surgery period, and is recovering presently in the hospital. We are anticipating her being released to recouperate at the apartment here in a couple of days. Surgery went well and all OK.
so....We are in Kuala lumupur now.The hospital is about 4 km away from the apartment. I have my bearings sorted now and am happy to walk there. A taxi costs 4.7 ringit (NZ$2) if the driver uses the meter. 6-10 without the meter. Traffic is heavy and there are small motorbikes everywhere. Each green light is like the start of the malaysian 125gp. Riders fashion is to wear a shirt backwards, which I assume is to stop things such as cigarette butts and insects flying down the front of your shirt . There are 2 lanes on the main road to the hospital which will accomodate 3 cars wide with enough space for lane splitting down each side of the middle car. Traffic was quite heavy on the way back to the hospital at 8.30pm but the road was relitavely empty at 1am on the way back to the apartment, being driven by malaysias top F1 driver. We managed to maintain 120 from the pick-up to drop-off (the road has a 60k speed limit!!)
Across the road from the hospital is a large shopping mall and surrounding shops. I noticed that the banks have a security guard posted outside, as is practice in NZ. However, the jewlery shops have a security guard too, but armed with a pump action shotgun. These are not policemen) There were several outlets in this mall withh such guards, and it was a very busy mall. I did also notice that the security guards delivering money to the bank were armed as well.
Well folks, its getting on to 2am now and I had better grab a couple of hours rest. See ya!![]()
