Thats a big ten four psyguy! I know the way to Kawakawa and from there, on to Kaiaua, Opere, Miranda and then SH 27 to Kopu/Thames and the Coromandel.happy to co lead till we get to Kopu/Thames if you'd like.
This map shows it pretty clearly when enlarged a little more. http://zoomin.co.nz/ Off at Manurewa left into the Botanical Gardens, there's a Mobil gas station a little further down Hill road which is on our way to Clevedon and the Kawakawa road so all covered nicely.

Well it is looking like a reasonably long ride, I might have to take my comfy bike. This will take the whole day, wanna get an early start on it?

No worries psyguy and ol Dodgy is right it is going to be a long ride , at least 3-5 hours in the saddle. So perhaps an earlier start time is in order, everyone Ok with that??, say 9am???

Do you know if there is a gas station nearby Caseye?

Assuming 450 to 500 km @ 100 kph (lots of twisty roads) and allowing 15 minutes at start and again for 2 coffee/gas stops and another 45 to 60 minutes for lunch and say 4 more (2 each way) stop points to regroup 5-10 minutes each for a total of 2.25 hours out of saddle and approx 4.75 in the saddle. Makes for 7 hours

A 9:00am start would put us back at CBD around 4:00pm

Gas is available 300 metres away from ther Botanical Gardens at the Hill road Mobil station.
Also Gas is avaialable in almost every town we pass through.
Though for our trip, a gas stop at Kopu then perhaps Coromandel or Whitianga then home should do us, but rest assurred theres enough open stations to get there and back without running out.

what an enthusiasm! and he's not even going!

croc, you're defintely organising a trip for us when you get your licence back

in terms of start time, i was thinking maybe even a bit earlier than 9am might be good so we can take longer stops and still avoid the evening traffic on the way back
maybe 8.15am at the gardens for an 8.30am start?

If you guys are OK with this, would you mind if I met up with you around Kopu or Thames? You'll probably be there around 9:30 - 9:45am if you're leaving Manurewa at 8:30am.

    yeah, no prob, max
i'll drop you a pm with my mob number so we can keep in touch on the day

got a shock of my life today - went to the powdercoater thinking my parts would be ready for a pick up
he informed me they had a setback as they havent received the parts from the paint strippers (the same company but the shop is down the road)
so, he calls the shop to find out what's going on... and gets a reply that THEY CANT FIND THE PARTS WTF

a few back-and-forths on the phone between the managers and they suposedly find the parts and i should have them tomorrow
but, i wont rest till i see the parts with my eyes, i dont think

I'm a morning person so early is fine.
This is sounding good, and nicely sorted too Glad someone did the math.

And a lot of M/way cut out which is great.
So the Botanical Gardens it is for meet up?
I can pop up to the Westgate Shell for the initial part, probably leave there 25-30 mins before we all meet up in Manurewa?
