Mirror extenders for ER6F/Ninja 650r.

Well I'm guessing this is part of bike gear.... I hope!

I'm looking for a way to extend my mirrors out or get some completely new ones as the oem mirrors are shocking, dangerously shocking. I can no longer stand not seeing anything.

I've heard zx-14 mirrors are one of the easiest ways, not sure how much these would cost though, and I would have to grind the ends to fit into the 650 base. Another option is SWMotech Mirror Extenders, but they're like $60 USD which seems a little retarded for some pieces of metal (not that I can talk, don't know the first thing about fabrication). Also I've heard they don't completely fix the problem due to being not extending out far enough.

I'm not keen on bar end mirrors so I'm not sure if there is any other option, but I thought I would just see if anyone else has done something with their bikes that may work on mine, before I try fork out money for a semi-fix or likely pay ridiculous money for zx-14 mirrors, which would suck.. I would rather spend money on something other than replacing what shouldn't need replacing

one possible solution -sight unseen mind you.
Get a piece of 75x25 H3 d4s timber.
Mark the shape of the base of your mirrors on it.
Cut it out and sand it--Bingo--mirrors 20mm wider
Doesnt sound like much but might be enough
The other thought would be to use bar mounted mirrors .
One that comes to mind is the XJ600/900/Fj1100 mirrors.
they go outwards horisontal to clear the fairing then they go up

I'm too cheap to buy the mo-tech extenders. At 60 bucks, could you blame me? I made the set of DIY mirror extenders using metal plates, stacked washers, and extra nuts and bolts I had laying around. Most of the parts came from the local walmart hardware department. Then I painted them black to match the bike. Parts were less than 5 bucks. If I drop the bike... the extenders bend.. just bend them back. I might make a rubber boot to cover the whole thing. You wont notice them unless you had a good hard look.

Parts:
You need plates similar to those found in a Walmart U-bolt kit. I found these in the hardware dept. but the plates were longer and not as wide. The U-bolt in the kit were not used.


washers - I bought the assorted variety.

Assembly:
Step 1: Sandwich the washers between the plates and then connect to base of mirror.
Step 2: bolt other end of plates to mirror.
step 3: paint to desired color.

I'm surprised no-one has thought of this or bothered to post it. People must be making millions off of us rich bikers.
It's a simple and cheap fix for a common issue. I was worried about vibration issues but I didn't have any.
