Just heard from a guy who mentioned his Suzuki GS1100 shaft locks up the back wheel on tight twisty roads. Is this normal - never heard of it as a problem?

Well i wouldn't call it normal....
It will be the limited slip diff - it always plays up on that model.
that would give ya the shits in a hurry
piece of piss to lock-up the shaft panic breaking trying haul up one of those old girls in the tight stuff![]()
Dunnoabout that - I've never had a problem with the back brake locking except in gravel or something like that and even then I have to deliberately try to lock it. The Suzuki shaft drive was considered to be one of the better ones at the time of the 850s/1100s. If the guy means that it would bind up because of suspension movement or something - I think that would indicate something seriously bad going on
Edit: I see now that this is a BMW GS1100, right? Yeah they're crap - final drive made in the same plant that used to build Trabants - parts interchange, apparently
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
those cheap ass bitches can do anything with ductape.

Possible pinion gear bearing, or maybe uni's.
Either way, get it checked out. Tis a whole lotta m/cycle that will be hard to control if it fails. (great old buses though).
Ooop's thought you meant a Suzi. Could be a similar fault on a Beemer, but I know little about them.
As a genral rule on here (i have found) if they say suzuki GS then it is a zuki if they say it is a GS then it is a BMW. This is because the zuki GS modles never brake down so people dont belive it![]()
Apologies guys, I did mean the Suzuki.
Wouldn't happen on a BMW....![]()
oops
