Why won't it stop?

ahh this bike is frustrating finally got it all together but surprise! theres more.

3 or 4 weeks ago i got a new chain and sprockets done all good, here comes the problem i have to keep tightening the chain......

i have done maybe less than 800km of not thrashing the gears nice and easy riding since the boys tightened it last and it needs to be retightened at this rate ill need a bloody new chain

WHY????

is it a cheap chain or something else?

how much did you pay for the chain and what brand is it?
Does it look like gold links?
How often did you lube it?

I've noticed a couple of times now that when I first get chains, they tend to `settle in' a little bit and need more frequent adjustment early on. I normally do mine every 1500kms or so, so needing half that for an adjustment with a brand new chain doesn't seem too ridiculous.

That's just my experiences though.

You maybe doing it a bit tight.

Its a whole lot easier to have someone adjust it while you are in the seat.

I find if I hav mine at 20-25mm it gets to tight an stretches, but at 30-35mm it seems to be about right.

You'll just hav to find what works best for ya wheels.

not sure what brand and i paid about 300 for the whole lot labour also
doesnt have gold links

most chains will have there make stamped on the links somewhere

If its one of those cheap and nasty ones you should be able to get away with it.

Badger and i bought the same cheap chain from same dealer, and it didnt like my bike, overstretched while i was out riding one day and he never had a prob with his one being that it was on a 250.

i believe its a good brand my mechanic doesnt put cheap shit on his bikes nor mine or LilSels.

is it worth going to see him about it you reckon?

I would definately take it back to the shop and ask for them to check it out. How long has it been on the bike (time-wise)... because he/she might not take it back.

chains need to set in, so do stretch a fair bit at first.

what do the sprockets look like? take a photo perhaps? if they arent the "right" shape they'll contribute to chain wear - usually you replace chain with sprockets in one go

a cheap chain will stretch extra-easy, as will a chain that's too small (bike shops don't always get it right)
