SBK regulations?

hey there. the other day i was watching superbikes for the 1st time in ages,and noticed that ducati have a 1098cc engine.
i thought that sbk was a 1000cc limit? or are they allowing V twins a higher capacity?

can someone update me on what this years reg's are please?

Its actually a 1198cc engine... they got the rules changed so they could race a 1200cc V-twin stating that it had become too expensive to further develop the 1000cc donk to make more power.

They had to take on extra weight as a tradeoff - more will be added if they keep winning.

Up until the allowing of the 1200cc limit for twins, Ducati and others have been allowed to do more to their engines (almost the old 'superbike' FIM rules) than the 4 cyclinder bikes which were running to a kind of Supersport 'plus' tuning standard.

Now they have the 1200 limit all the bikes are finally running to the same rules.................. supposedly

There was no way that the 999 could have run with the 1000cc fours if it were not for the help from the rules until this year... even with Bayliss et al. If you wanted to see the true playing field so to speak, over the past couple of years, you needed to look at AMA where the Ducatl had to run to the same rule book as everyone else......even with Hodgson on board, in general, the Ducati struggled.
